I had a rather full on week end. Jake came down on friday to be part of a focus group then on saturday after he had aplied for a job at Ferg's we started hitching up to palmy. After about 20 minutes we got our first lift.
The first guy was an inline hockey player who knew something about rock climbing so the two boys talked about that all the way to plimerton, because Jake had a huge bouldering mat with him it was a good talking point. Jake has this thing that when he's hitchhiking he invents a story for each ride, the story for this ride was that he had been on holiday in Chch bouldering around Castle Rock, but there was a slight accident with that one as he told the guy first that he had just arrived on the ferry that morning and secondly that he had stayed with his mother in Wellington last night. but the guy didn't call him up on it....
The second lift from plimerton to the palmerston north turn off just before levin was a nice old man who worked with youth at risk. he had a dog who sat in the back with me named Hippy. The story for this ride was that we were on holiday from Otago to visit some friends in Palmy. At Otago I was first year Psych and Jake was studying adventure tourism at one of the poly-techs connected to otago. Ufortunatly the guy had a daughter at Otago studying Psych but she was second year or something and he didn't ask too many questions, more about how my work with IHC was going, and that was fine cos I could just talk about conrad he didn't know that C was in Wellington not Otago.
The third lift was from the turn off to palmy to Massey uni, a mother and daughter going to palmy to participate in some 10km walk. we didn't have a story for that.
Then we met chrissy and she took me to see the anatomy labs and showed me the 2 headed calf and the 5 legged lamb. Then to the lambing fields where we saw a lamb that had just been born and it was yellow and taking its first steps and its first drink it was very cute.
then with a few stops on the way we went back to Jake and Chrissy's house where they cooked a yummy curry for dinner and then we went out.
Out in palmy is not that exciting, they took me first to a pub called Murphy's Law, which was loud and packed. we sat down on a sofa though and had a drink and one guy leaned round a wall and waggled his thumb at us. Then when Jake went to the loo we got swarmed by guys who were on a stag night. Then we went on to the next pub called the celtic. We went in, bought drinks, sat down, and then i was recognised by the band. I have no idea where i knew them from, but i did recognise them, *shrugs* so we stayed there for a couple of hours playing 'coin abuse' then went home and fell into bed.
Sunday we went to the market to get vegetables then into town, town isn't that exciting in palmy. But we did find an interesting place called "mind" which was kinda like a science museum, we went in there and solved a murder and crime, "who stole the white rhino?" it was a fun way to spend an afternoon, then we went to the esplanade and looked at the birds and then back to J and C's where they again cooked me dinner and then we got horrendously out of it with a buckie and played crash bandicoot until we fell asleep.
Monday, I got up at 5.30 to catch the train back to wellington leaving at 6.20 except it didn't leave till nearly 7. when i got back to town i went to see mum and she took me to buy a cake for arthur and viv, we went to the chocolate cake company and chose a lovely cake with tulips and chocolate swirls and it was very pretty. Then I headed off in the direction of the Library and met arthur along the way, He was going up to high so I went too. Back into town meet kip take arthur to buy viv some tulips then split up so we can go get the cake for arthur. Pick up the cake, take it back to arthurs. Then off to the Wedding.
The wedding was sweet, they were both so sincere and clearly in love so now there is a Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gillies.
Back to Arhur's via the supermarket to pcik up some Champagne then celebrate and then out to dinner to continure celebrating, unfortunatly by this time I was feeling decidedly sick and coldy. So after dinner I went back to kips and fell asleep.
Now we are up to tuesday, I met Perrine for coffee in the morning which was nice I haven't seen much of her at all recently and it was good to catch up with her.
Then to work which is much harder if your sick. then home and now it is wednesday and I'm still sick but hopefully I will be better by tomorrow.
