Ryan doesn’t really know how Alex managed to drag him to a Christmas choral concert, especially considering that they don’t actually know any of the seven year olds singing off-pitch under the bright green and red lights, but somehow, he finds himself in an overcrowded auditorium with itchy blue seats in Queens.
“Why the fuck are we here again?” Ryan asks, glaring at Alex.
Alex just smiles serenely back at Ryan, though, and says, “I thought it might cheer you up.”
Ryan raises an eyebrow. “Why would I need to be cheered up?”
“Well, I thought that after Jon told you you sounded like a dying buffalo when you sang, it might be nice to hear people with worse pitch than you.”
Alex gives Ryan’s knee a little pat and turns back to the group of first graders.
“But they’re seven,” Ryan hisses, and Alex laughs.
