This is what someone said of my tattoo in a forum I recently posted it in...
"That prayer tattoo is really cool.
It means something, but it doesn't mean anything.
It hearkens back to the days when the Norse were still badasses, and implies that its wearer is a badass still.
It is not in memory of his recently-deceased grandfather who was a viking.
That is not too much to expect people to understand, right?"
thought it was pretty accurate for someone who doesn't know me.. it's a prayer the english prayed when the vikings were pillaging their villages "our supreme and holy grace, protecting us and ours, deliver us, God, from the savage race of northmen which lay waste our rhealms"
