So, I got back from Rawhide *showers continuously* and I have much good news. First, I didn't get burnt! Second, I got FIRST PLACE in BOTH things I did for the show. Third, I got permission to study for Rancher!! And fourth and finally, I MADE BUCKAROO!!! *cheers* *throws confetti* *dances a jig*
So getting burnt is probably not that big of a deal, but I'm pretty happy. Oh, I did get a little pink on my arm for a day or two, because, "I just finished swimming and I don't want to put on more sunscreen. I'll only be standing in the sun at flagpole for five minutes, and I'm already half in shade. I won't get burnt." Guess what? *sigh* But the next three are of the shiny. I showed a calf (Gas) in Advanced Animal Showmanship and got first place and a shiny blue ribbon! Then I vaulted with the rest of the B-team and got first again! How? I don't know! I was sure there were other people who were better than me. Normally I only get placed somewhere in the middle. I mean, I'm not the strongest, the best balanced, or the most flexible. I guess I'm just getting better at picking routines that fit my abilities. Moving on.... My Rancher project will be (kosher) beef cattle, and I've already got plenty of good information from our babysitter's parents, who own a ranch. If (when) I make it, I will be one of 4 Ranchers in the entire history of the camp. I have to study an enormous binder of information. Mom's trying to see if I can count it as a credited course for my schooling. And... BUCKAROO!! I'm a Buckaroo!! I am acknowledged to be better than average at riding!! Huzzah!
Yesterday I felt so domestic. I went out picking berries from some unknown type of tree with Mozzle, then I came home, baked a pie, dusted my room, straightened things up, and knitted for a bit. It's not an entirely bad feeling either.
Oh, and I found a cool website. It's essentially a limited blog for a lady who makes those nifty fanciful Medieval costumes you see at Ren fairs and the like. She details everything she does to make the costume, which is interesting, because you get the details on exactly HOW these costumes are made, but more than that - she's a really good writer! It's interesting and laugh-out-loud hilarious. The html is
http://www.sempstress.org/ Dad has decided that the two of us are going to get in shape this summer and lose some weight. He wanted me to read the first part of the Nautilus Diet book and so I did. It doesn't sound too bad. There's a lot about weight lifting in conjunction with good diet, which a lot of diet plans don't use but that Dad thinks it's the best way. Hmm... I've got a website for the woman's side of weight lifting around here somewhere....
http://www.stumptuous.com/weights.html So that will be one of my goals for the summer. I actually have a lot of goals this summer, mainly because I think since we're staying at home essentially uninterrupted, I don't have any excuse to evade making them. They are:
Weight loss/fitness with Dad (Which WILL contain running - must buy moleskin for abrasive tennis shoes)
Finish knitting that stupid-ass tote bag that's been hanging around in my drawer for months that I FINALLY got enough yarn for and now no longer like the look of
Work on memorizing entire Rancher study binder and, while I'm at it, all the lyrics to the Star Trek Next Generation Episode Guide Song (great for amazing people at filks!)
Make Firefly quote shirt before Comicon
Finish reading everything Mercedes Lackey has ever written then write her a fan letter WITHOUT sounding rabid and obsessive, which may mean cutting out the phrases, "I've read everything you've written and I love it all; allow me to drool on your feet, oh Goddess of the written word" and "Your work is incredible, but there are some small editing errors in a few of your books which I've helpfully pointed out to you on the following extensive list...."
Put together Rancher project outline
I think I can do it. I have plenty of free time, after all.
