This failure by Kings and the upper classes was to have a profound effect on the 20th Century, with the rise of Fascism and Communism. But the dangers of re-writing history, is that it is done to hide facts that suite the sides who write it. Imperial Germany was known as early as 1890, with wanting to expand its Empire outside of Europe into militarty conflicts with the British in Africa and the Dutch in SE-Asia.
