Summary: I was inspired by this quote from JATV from 6/26/2007: “To Matsujun. It’s almost time for the last episode of Bambino, isn’t it? Thanks for your hard work in two cool dramas. I definitely want to hear your thoughts on this accomplishment!” And this pic:

Of course Sho was not lying when he said he wanted to hear Jun’s thoughts on finishing those two dramas that gave him so much success in the interview. He was tired of always watching the younger man from afar and being able to do nothing about it. If he tried to make conversation with Jun, he would answer him sharply and no more. He was almost tired of trying, but he knew it was his fault Jun was this way, and that it was he who had done this to him. Riida had commented on how much Sho had calmed down lately, but Jun seemed to want no part of it. That shot of Sho putting his hands on Jun’s shoulders was the closest they had been in months.

Jun whipped away as soon as the cameraman had given them the okay. Sho stood stunned for a moment, amazed how a person could change dispositions so quickly. He watched the other man’s back as he walk away quickly, giving Sho no time to respond. Nino looked on at the whole thing and went to put his arms around Sho’s waist from behind, resting his head on the older man’s shoulder.

“It’ll be okay, Sho-chan. He’ll come around eventually.” Since Sho and Jun were the last pair to be shot for the day, nobody chased this new pair off the background. Nino knew that Sho had been trying to get Jun back ever since Yamataro had started because he wanted to talk to him. “I could chase him for you and keep him talking, and then you could come in and I could leave.” The request hung in the air as Sho peeled Nino off of him.

“Well, I suppose if you would-” He had barely started before Nino took off, trailing the youngest member. Sho sighed to himself as he dragged his hand down his face, letting it rest over his mouth. “What have I gotten myself into?” He wondered aloud.

When Sho finally peeked into the green room, Nino was standing next to the couch, rambling on about some game he beat last night while Jun, seated on the couch and looking only slightly interested, scrolled through messages on his phone. Aiba and Riida were nowhere to be found. Sho took a deep breath and made up his mind to enter the room. Upon his entrance, Nino only glanced at him and kept talking, but Jun looked up, eyes wide. He snapped his phone shut and grabbed his bag, standing leave, but Nino grabbed his shoulder with a firm grip. Sho stepped closer, which only made the youngest inch backwards and glare at Nino.

“Let me go,” he growled. Nino only tightened his grip and pushed the other man back onto the couch. Jun’s mouth opened in surprise as he flew onto the couch, to which Nino responded with something about going to get the game he was talking about. He walked out and closed the door, leaving Sho and Jun in an uncomfortable silence. Jun glared at Sho, who opened his mouth, then thought better of it and looked at the floor.

“Jun, I wanted to talk to you.” Sho still could not meet Jun’s piercing gaze, and began to wring his hands. Before he could fully comprehend what he was doing, he closed the distance between them, placed his hands on the other’s shoulders, and put his lips over Jun’s. Jun was in too much shock to do anything at first, but he eventually gained control of himself and pushed Sho off.

“That’s what you wanted to talk about!?” he half screamed, yet was breathing hard.

“Well, you know me, I’m not good at talking…”

“You’re not good at talking? You’re a newscaster, for heaven’s sake! One would think that you of all people would be good at talking!” Jun was now standing, arms crossed, glaring at Sho with malice in his eyes.

“Yeah, I can talk about that stuff, but talking about…with you is just…” Sho hung his head in shame when no more words came to him.

Jun gulped, clenched his jaw, and closed his eyes. “You wanted to talk to me,” he hissed, “so you kissed me?!” His now body tensed and he furrowed his brow.

“Jun, I didn’t know how to start,” Sho began, holding his hands with palms up. “I really want to know how things are going for you lately. You’re so popular, and to tell the truth, I’m kind of jealous. I don’t know how to approach you anymore. I’ve tried so many times to talk to you, but every time you brush me off. How else was I supposed to get you to listen to me?” Sho’s voice caught and let on that there were tears in his eyes. Jun’s face fell when he heard this, and his eyes flew to Sho’s. “I just wanted to be friends again, Jun. Can’t you at least give me the chance?” Sho raised his face to meet Jun with a slight frown and glassy eyes.

Jun looked away and his gaze darted everywhere but to the only other living thing in the room. He bit on his lower lip for a moment before looking back at Sho, whose tears were seconds away from spilling over. That was all invitation he needed to rush to the older man and envelop him in an embrace as though he had been waiting for this for a long, long time. Sho’s tears finally made their way down his face as he wrapped his arms around the younger man. “Can you ever forgive me?” he whispered in Jun’s ear.

Jun drew a breath before speaking “I’m sorry, Sho. I’m sorry for ignoring you, no, for brushing you off all this time. I just didn’t want to be hurt, because I’ve been hurt too many times.” Tears were gathering in his eyes, so he blinked them away and reached up to pat Sho’s hair, resting his hand there. “I didn’t want you of all people to be the one to hurt me, because I lo-” Jun stopped, only to hear a chuckle come from the other man.

“You love me right? You’ve always loved me. And I’ve always loved you. Not because you’re my biggest fan, but because you’re a great person to be around. You just have a way of making people feel good about themselves without saying anything, by just being there. I’ve missed your friendship, Jun.” This confession made Jun’s tears overflow even though he had tried his hardest to keep them back. He loosened his grip on the other man to hold him at arm’s length.

“I think,” he said, taking a shaky breath, “I think we can be friends again. We can’t get the time back, but we still have the future. And who knows what can happen.” He pulled Sho back for a kiss, which the older man readily responded to by holding on tighter. When they had sacrificed all their breath, they drew back panting heavily. Sho swallowed a few times and opened his mouth.

“So, do you have any plans tonight? We could go get dinner, or something…” Just then, Nino opened the door and poked his head through. The couple looked surprised, but did not let go of each other. A sly smile slid across the gamer’s face as he clucked his tongue.

“I see you two made up, so I’ll just be going now. Wait till I tell the others,” he sing-songed as he pranced across the room and grabbed his bag, waving a hand behind him as he disappeared out the door.

“We’re in a heap of trouble now…” Sho groaned, but Jun just held on tighter.

“So what, let them think what they want. But I’m hungry.” Jun pecked Sho on the lips. “And I don’t mean just for you.”
