Breathing was not a necessity within the Lifestream. Thinking was all one really needed, that was voice, movement, and anything in between. Breathing was what the living did. Aerith didn't know much about science, but the fact that she felt the need to breathe told her that something was amiss.

The moment her head reached the surface, her lungs gasped in air. It burned, and she coughed, stumbling back in the waist-deep water until she felt the side of the pool. Wood dug into her side, and it hurt. The water on her skin wad cooled by the morning air, and it was cold. Those were two things that were particular to life, just like air: hurt and cold. But she recognized them, even though she hadn't felt either in years. She found some sort of irony in it. Her last moments in life consisted of pain and a cold feeling, and so were her her first... or so it seemed.

Once her lungs were satisfied, she focused her eyes on the pool around her, squinting as the sun glinted off the water's surface.

She knew where she was even before her eyes adjusted to the light. Her eyes took in the water, the broken floorboards she held on to, the benches, the pillars... and the large creature among it all. She stumbled back a little more, the water sloshing as she tried to keep her balance.

Aerith watched the creature with a mixed look of awe and concern, unable to form words. She was... alive, and a increasing sense of dread was growing in her stomach. She had a feeling something was going to happen, but not this. She was too dumbstruck by her own resurrection to feel fear. All she could do was stare at what was before her.
