"Sir, Mr Neally from the hospital called, asking for a lunch meeting if at all possible."

Rufus flipped slowly through the proposal in his hand, dividing his attention between it and his secretary. One had to like the woman, at least Rufus did as much as it could be said he liked anyone. She had nearly been a Turk, kept out only because of a knee tendon injury at the Academy, but she was a crack-shot, a dragon of a woman when someone was stupid enough to try to bully her, and she had the efficiency of a machine.

Turning another page in the proposal, Rufus bit back the urge to curse. "Inform Mr Neally that I will contact him soon enough. I am well aware of his program that would immunize against influenza the children, poor, and elderly of Edge, and I am deciding on whether or not we can support it beyond what we have already done."

She nodded, "Should I contact Finance and Budgeting?"

Rufus shook his head. "No, not yet. I want to go over the spending projections for the coming quarter myself before I try to pitch anything to them. Schedule Mr Neally for the beginning of next week and let him know that it is the best I can do right now. He may feel free to send me whatever estimations that he has for what is needed or required."

"Yes, Sir. Mr Yamato from Research and Development wanted me to remind you that you have a ten-fifteen today with them downstairs on the new solar cells."

Rufus scanned down over the page, drawing a pen from his pocket and circling a few things. "Tell him to make it ten o'clock and that I fully expect something operational and that we can begin manufacture on within the week. Winter is coming, and if we can get these solar cells up and running, it'll take some of the pressure off not only us but the WRO as well."

Not to mention perhaps knock BioFuse down a peg or two, Rufus mentally added. He didn't trust the company or its 'president' for the obvious reasons as well as their flashiness with charity work. Rufus had been raised in the old-fashioned style of being anonymous with good deeds if at all possible. It made one look weak to do them as well as gave the tabloids something to poke at. BioFuse's conduct shrieked publicity monger to him, and that meant bad things on the whole.

"Sir?"

Rufus blinked, realizing belatedly that he'd ended up lost in his thoughts momentarily. "What did you say?"

"I asked if you wanted Shin-Ra Company to issue a press release yet in regards to what was said in the paper."

That was a hard question. If he did release anything, it could rebound back on the WRO, and at present, that was unacceptable. If public opinion was starting to turn on Reeve and the WRO, he might very well need to use Shin-Ra's to defend it. Everything was too fragile right now to risk it. "I'll put in a call to Tuesti later and find out if he plans to release anything so we don't contradict each other."

She nodded, noting it down and going to the next item. "Ms Federan of Finance is requesting use of a helicopter and pilot as well as a security detail for a flight to..."

"No," Rufus said shortly. "She can take a car and one person for security. Until further notice, all non-essential flights are grounded. If the muckrakers are starting to study how much power and resources the WRO uses, it won't be long before they turn their attention to Shin-Ra. Inform Director Tseng that I will be using my car for my own transportation and I don't mean the bullet-proof one. That thing drives like a tank and uses more petrol than all the others put together. If necessary, I'll keep a Turk with me at all times while in transit. Make sure that Reno is informed that he is not to be taking joy-rides in the Shin-Ra aircraft whenever he gets bored of paperwork. Also, get in contact with the WRO's financial liason for this month and ensure that they are ready for the funds transfer. With the papers being nosy, use Rush Incorporated out in Junon as the dummy front this time. I don't want the Costa one, Sufur Limited, used again. Someone might be checking records."

"Yes, Sir."

The elevator dinged as they reached the President's floor, Rufus nodding to the woman as she took her place at her desk and he headed into his office. A bomb-proof door shut behind him, leaving her alone in the outer office. Beneath her desk were two guns, Cynthia Dargeste trained quite well in the use in both. At times, she was almost... almost glad she had been flunked out of the Academy. Should anyone unauthorized come through that elevator, they would have had a bullet-hole between their eyes before they had a chance to endanger the President. On her one computer screen, a small video window was opened, showing the inside of said elevator. Settling down with her notepad, she began making calls.

In his office, Rufus Shinra sat his briefcase down and began going through the contracts piled on his desk for Costa del Sol. Popping two plain white pills in his mouth, he picked up his pen and began going through the proposals.
