Yazoo wanted to ask why Loz wasn’t being brought back, but before he could open his mouth his attention was drawn toward the sound of coughing, and he looked over to see that Kadaj was finally awake. Deciding to leave his brothers to themselves for a few minutes, he slowly pushed himself up into a standing position and crossed his arms behind his head to stretch.
Ah, so they were in the ruins of Midgar. He himself would have preferred the Forgotten City, but he guessed this place was better than nothing. Dropping his arms, he reached behind him with the intent of inspecting his Velvet Nightmare, but his hand met nothing but air and for a second he was confused as to why it wasn’t with him.
Oh, that’s right. Big Brother sliced it in half, he thought to himself as a dark expression crept over his features for a brief moment. He’ll pay for that.
He turned his attention back to Kadaj and Sephiroth, deciding that the two of them had had a sufficient amount of time to squabble with each other. Crossing his arms over his chest, he inquired, “So what’s your plan for getting us armed, assuming you have one?” That particular wording wasn’t bound to go over very well with Sephiroth, but at the moment Yazoo was more worried about them being caught unprepared for a fight.
Kadaj glared at Sephiroth throughout the exchange, gaze flickering only occasionally towards Yazoo as they spoke. He probably should have been a little more subtle, given the circumstances (glowering at the person who had arranged from your return from death was hardly appropriate, was it?), but he failed to care. After everything the man had and hadn't done, and how much more Mother favored him... wasn't he entitled to look at least somewhat displeased to see him?
Snorting softly, he rose (with difficulty) to his feet, finally turning his glare away from Sephiroth as he began to dust himself off with carefully exaggerated gestures. Of all the places they could have been revived in... and what was he supposed to say now, anyway? Yazoo seemed to have no problem at all with talking to the favorite, but Kadaj was having considerably more difficulty with trying to think up something that wasn't deliberately insulting. He didn't care how Sephiroth would have reacted to that, honestly, but with the very real chance that Mother would be upset by it, he held his tongue.
... Almost. "Yes, what is your plan for getting us armed? I doubt our weapons are available in every corner store-- would be kind of stupid if they were, wouldn't it? Unless that is what you have in mind."
The lack of respect in each remnants tone would have to be dealt with eventually if it continued to persist. He could allow such slight to slide for the time being, but if it remained constant in their dealings, Sephiroth would be left with no choice but take action. There was only so far that he’d allow it before it turned into disobedience to his order.
“As amusing as it would be to see you both shopping for your weapons Kadaj, that will hardly be the case.” He’d already considered their options when it came to regaining their lost weapons. Just as he would never truly be weapon-less, neither would his remnants. Fortunately their weapons still remained on the planet, and while some were damaged, they’d be able to repair themselves through the effort of summoning.
“While not on the same level as myself, you both hold some ability to summon your weapons to your side. The connection isn’t strong mind you - so I wouldn’t make it a habit of losing your weapons too often.” His words were said in a matter of fact tone, but the message behind it couldn’t be clearer as Sephiroth passed his gaze over between the two. “Once you’ve satisfied your curiosity, we’ve far more important matters to discuss than the location of your blades.”
Summon them? Ohh, this was going to be fun. Kadaj had no intention at all of losing Souba again, but when he thought of what his enemies' expressions would look like if he pulled his sword out of thin air... well, as someone who already loved showing off as much as he did, it was too much to resist. But how was he supposed to do it...?
Distractedly, Kadaj flexed the fingers on his left hand and tried concentrating on forcing Souba's appearance, saying, "Yes, yes, I understand. Consider our curiosity satisfied. What is it that we need to discuss? How to get rid of the traitor and his friends, right? They've stood in our way for too long." The president and his Turks were another problem that he would have liked to see gone, but Kadaj was certain that his big brother would take priority in Sephiroth's mind. Some things never changed.
While he spoke, he continued focusing on summoning his sword. How did this work, anyway? Sephiroth should have done a better job of explaining it. As long as he figured out how to do it before Yazoo did, though, he would be fine. He did have an image to uphold after all.
“The traitor is not our concern for the time being.” Sephiroth declared. As much as he’d enjoy toying with that small group of misfits there were far more important things at hand. The influence he held over the planet had taken a severe drop since his last resurrection, and if he was going to continue on with Mother’s work, he’d need to re-establish the hold he previously had. “Mother’s influence is weak, and her power needs to be reintroduced back into the planet.”
They would need to locate those who had created these bodies. Obviously they’d managed to obtain a sample of his DNA from one of the labs if they’d been able to successfully create these bodies. If that was the case, then it was simply a matter of locating this laboratory and using it to his advantage. “Before that can be done however, we’ll be in need of specific information.”
The idea of being able to summon the Velvet Nightmare out of thin air both intrigued and disappointed Yazoo. How was being to pull that stunt off going to help him now when his weapon was in pieces? He thought for a moment about asking (very sarcastically) which half of the gun Sephiroth would like him to summon first, but he restrained himself, albeit with some difficulty, and decided that he would tell Sephiroth about the problem later.
“And what exactly is this “specific information”?” he asked after turning his attention back to the conversation at hand. The annoyance at Sephiroth for the complete lack of further explanation was clearly evident in his voice, as Yazoo was barely trying to mask it. Honestly, was their brother going to elaborate on anything or make them play guessing games?
That was a pleasant surprise. Kadaj might have even warmed up to Sephiroth after hearing that reasserting Mother's reign over the Planet was more important their other grievances if it hadn't been, well, Sephiroth, but it was the thought that counted. Maybe working with him would be tolerable after all.
Then again, maybe it wouldn't. Kadaj was still unsuccessful in his (admittedly rather half-hearted) attempts to summon his sword and he was beginning to get frustrated. Would it have killed Sephiroth to give them a tutorial? He shot another glance in Yazoo's direction, curiosity mingling with amusement and matching irritation at both the tone his brother had used and the fact that he didn't seem interested in trying to summon the Velvet Nightmare. Was he simply putting it off until later, or had something else happened...? Well, whatever. He was sure Yazoo had his reasons.
"Where more of Mother's cells are, right?" he asked, looking back towards Sephiroth. "Or where more of yours are, since the two are so connected." He sounded a bit too bitter for his tastes, but maybe they wouldn't pick up on it.
“Precisely. It seems as though the foolish humans enjoy playing with things best left untouched, but then again, such shortcomings of their race work in our favour.” Ignoring Kadaj’s tone, Sephiroth pulled his attention away from the pair and thoughtfully regarded the wasteland around them.
Whatever cells remained were not housed within any form of body and were without flesh to thrive in - which meant that not only were the remaining cells most likely located in specimen containers, but it would also make it far more difficult for even him to locate them. If they were without flesh then his cells would remain dormant, and if they were dormant, then it would be next to impossible to feel their presence until he drew closer to them.
The location they found themselves in, however, gave Sephiroth the impression that whoever created these cloned bodies would also have to be nearby. They’d also done a rather careless job in discarding any evidence - which made it seem more like a rushed job rather than anything else. No one experienced enough in such areas would make such a critical error in judgement, and that meant that locating them would be easier than previously realised.
Pulling out of his thoughts, Sephiroth’s attention returned back onto the pair as he spoke. ”Judging by our location, it is safe to assume that whoever is in possession of Mother’s cells are relatively close by. Edge would be the most logical place for us to begin our search.”
There was the possibility that a few samples of his cells could be in Nibelheim, but he could hardly send the two remnants to such a remote location. It would take them far too long to travel the land, and the possibility of finding nothing was far too high. They would be much better served in locating any evidence in relation to far more feasible problems while he personally headed to that quaint little mountain town.
“I’ll need the two of you to begin searching Edge for any signs of Mother’s influence or those who created these shells. If Edge turns up with nothing, then we’ll focus our attentions elsewhere. But we shall focus on one thing at a time hmm?” Although he ended with a questioning tone, Sephiroth quiet obviously wasn’t searching for an answer to that particular query.
Return to and search Edge. To Yazoo, that was much easier said than done. Not only were they lacking in any form of faster transportation than their feet, but he was weaponless.
“Just as long as you’re not expecting us to go waltzing into Edge at this very moment,” he directed at Sephiroth as he dropped his arms and made his way over to stand next to Kadaj, continuing to talk as he went. “We have yet to properly summon our weapons, and I’m still trying to decide which half of my Velvet Nightmare would be more useful to me, you know,” a short, mock casual pause, “since it’s in pieces.”
He came to a stop beside his brother and turned so that he was now facing Sephiroth, his head tilting slightly as he regarded the other man with an expression that could easily be taken as a “let’s see you do something about that” look.

Kadaj nodded along with the explanation, seeming impatient. That was so easy to figure out, really-- why did they need Sephiroth to tell them all of that when he could have reached the same conclusion for them himself? Even if it would have been all but impossible for them to be revived without Sephiroth around, that didn't mean they had to listen to him now, did it?
... But it probably did. Mother wouldn't want him to act ungrateful, especially towards her pride and joy, so he was going to have to at least pretend to cooperate. Maybe more than pretend, since this was obviously what she would have wanted him to do anyway. He had to make her happy.
Yazoo's comment about his Velvet Nightmare being in pieces made his head snap around, though, and eyes narrowing, he prompted, "Let me guess-- Big Brother, right?" Ohh, he was going to make him pay for that. That and the strange explosion.... He knew that his brothers had been caught in it, but while he hadn't really seen who'd been responsible, blame was all too easily shifted to the traitor. It always came back to him eventually.
To Sephiroth, he said, "We can begin searching, but Yazoo does have a point, you know. And even when we do summon our weapons, we have no form of transportation... yet. That's easily fixed, but it's going to be a problem if you want us to go hunting before we can be sure of a quick getaway. You don't want the traitor to figure out what we're doing before Mother's hold on the Planet is restored, do you?"
Sephiroth paid little mind to Kadaj’s little outburst. Whatever thoughts the remnant held towards Cloud would be allowed so long as it didn’t interfere with their duties. It really would be a shame if he had to speed up his plans this time - even if he could to some small degree understand why.
“The process to summon your weapon to you will return it in its original form,” Sephiroth stated to Yazoo as if it was the most obvious answer to the question. Really, were they that incapable that he’d have to resort to giving them ‘how to’ lessons? It was something Sephiroth severely doubted would go over terribly well. While he was known to be patient at times, there was only so far that patience would stretch. “The blade can rematerialise wholly given a successful summoning, but depending on the damage sustained would directly affect the effort and time needed to call upon your weapon. I wouldn’t suggest making a habit out of destroying your Velvet Nightmare Yazoo.”
Drawing his attention back over to Kadaj, “And here I thought that there would be no need in giving you step by step instructions, but if you wish to be given far stricter orders then so be it.” Chuckling softly, Sephiroth didn’t bother to hide the amusement he felt, before it disappeared as his more serious nature took over. “Avoid any form of confrontation with the traitor and his little entourage of misfits for now. If you happen to come across them and they haven’t caught sight of you, I know just how much it would pain you do to so, but avoid making yourself known to them. Our attention can be directed at them when Mother’s gained a stronger foothold on the planet. What we need to focus on for the time being is solely locating more of Mother’s cells, but obtain a method of transportation firstly if it would make you feel more comfortable with your search.”
“The one and only,” Yazoo answered with contempt, his gaze moving over to settle on Kadaj. “He got to Loz’s Dual Hound, too. Caused it to short-circuit and explode while it was still on his arm.” At his side, his hands balled into fists for the briefest of seconds before he relaxed again, telling himself that it wouldn’t be much longer before he had the traitor staring down the wrong end of a gun barrel.
That thought was short-lived, though, as Sephiroth’s words reached him and his attention switched back over to focus on the older male. The corners of his lips twitched upwards into a miniscule smirk as he retorted, “There, see? It didn’t kill you to explain that to me.”
Even if it had of, I’m sure you would have found some way to return, he silently added in annoyance; annoyance that only increased at Sephiroth’s next words. Instead of retorting this time, however, Yazoo bit his lip and kept quiet. It wouldn’t do well to risk angering Sephiroth to the point that he’d send them back to the Lifestream with a mere flick of his wrist. Where was Loz when you needed him?
Yazoo wanted to ask why Loz wasn’t being brought back, but before he could open his mouth his attention was drawn toward the sound of coughing, and he looked over to see that Kadaj was finally awake.
