In Consequence (G; the Wilkins, Hermione; 200 words)

Recently, a friend asked me how I thought that the Grangers would react to learning how Hermione had protected them before leaving to hunt Horcruxes with Harry and Ron. This is my answer.

"-doesn't change the fact that you had no right to do it!"

"Oh, God, Wendell. Our entire lives-I can't bear it! I can't bear you."

"Sweetheart, wait! Damn it! Where the hell do you think you're going?"

"To make Mum understa-"

"Enough. Leave Monica-"

"Her name is Mona, and-"

"-alone, and-"

"-yours is William!"

"-get out!"

"You don't mean that, Dad! It's just the shock. I was protecting-"

"There isn't a proper word in all the English language for what you did to the Grangers, but this the Wilkins residence. We don't have a daughter."

Hermione Floo'd home from work to find the latest copy of the Newsletter of the Association of Australian Dentists waiting for her. Scanning it eagerly, she gasped as she lit upon an item in the "Member News" section:

On 17 August at 7:25 a.m., Drs Monica and Wendell Wilkins welcomed a healthy baby girl into the world. Helen Anne was six pounds, seven ounces and 21 inches long at birth and is the couple's first child.

The newsletter slipped from Hermione's fingers as she burst into tears. They're never going to forgive me.

I know it's depressing, but I can't imagine that Hermione's parents would forgive her for effectively stealing their lives-and I think that they'd abandon Helen to Hermione's care if Helen showed even a hint of magic because they wouldn't be able to cope with the trauma it would stir up. I have a huge bunny to that effect, but I'm not going to feed it because I don't want to be writing long, potentially even more angsty fic while waiting for my HP Reversathon and SS/HG Exchange assignments.
