I've noticed I haven't really updated this in more than a month so I'm going to try and do that this weekend. In the meantime...
- On Sunday, MTV's reality show "Made" is holding a casting call here so I'm covering it.... I was joking to the other reporters that the high school kids will probably ask me what I'm there auditioning for since I'm always told I look young -- And Louie, another reporter, joked that I should go undercover or something and do a sarcastic first-person piece about it. lol..should be fun though.
- On a more serious note, I'm also working on a centerpiece story for Arizona Living, the main features section I worked for this summer, which has been really interesting... The piece is about how technology, mainly Internet guestbooks, aid in the grieving/remembrance process, especially with sites like Legacy.com that host guestbooks for people across the country who have passed. Legacy.com is strictly for online memorial guestbooks, but a lot of people use MySpace as well as dedication sites.
Anyway, so I interviewed several people, including mothers of two soldiers who died in Iraq -- a woman whose best friend died in 9/11 (he was a NYC firefighter) and the family of a girl who died last year at age 8 of a brain tumor. I know the story seems really sad but it isn't, because its about how these guestbooks help the families. Some people post quite often and write "to" the person who has died... talking about how they're doing, or the anniversary of something... The entries are powerful.
But wow, those interviews were probably the hardest I've ever had to do. One of the soldiers' mothers was crying constantly, as was the mother of the 8 year old girl - and I just can't even imagine what they've had to go through.
It's been a crrrrrrazy week and thus I'm exhausted for now. Jeremy will be home from the gym soon and we're gonna have a relaxing evening... Things are going well in the Grand Canyon state! adios.
