* I am OVERTAXED, that is, too much of my time and resources are dedicated to the support of Big Government. The city of Lawton, the county of Comanche, the state of Oklahoma, and the US federal government are entitled to a fair portion of my wages, but there should be a set (preferably flat) limit, and in combination with the tax contributions of everyone else, live within its respective budgetary means. Would it be too much to ask that fellow taxpayers (actual and aspiring) help me reign in Big Government by electing fiscal conservatives dedicated to shrinking the size and scope of government?
* Central elitist planners in a faraway capital (of course I am invoking a bit of Reagan here) can't possible know my personal needs and desires any better than the local elected officials within the sound of my voice. For accountability purposes, I much prefer to see Oklahoma issues resolved with Oklahoma dollars, than with federal ones. I don't want to pay one thin taxpayer dime for Chicago public schools (have you seen their dropout rate as of late?!), San Francisco daycare centers, or Reno parks.
* I will neither entertain nor support any amnesty program or path to citizenship for illegal immigrants until the issue of US border security is addressed and RESOLVED. If my house were to to acquire large holes in the roof and walls in the middle of a hot Oklahoman summer, my response to said problem would not be to crank up the air conditioning (thus raising my energy costs) but to FIX the holes where needed. Once that was accomplished, I would then address the problem of temperature regulation (which in this case, practically resolves itself).
Okay, before I move on, somebody please show me in my previous point where I clearly identify myself as being against legal immigration, being against a specific nationality, or being pro-Nazi, pro-Fascist, or pro-Totalitarian. Good luck with that.
* The problem with government regulation is that there is too much of it. Rinse and repeat. If you need lawyers and experts to understand the rules of the road, you probably have too many rules to begin with. When politicians race to create new laws to address some hot button issue, I have to ask myself what previous laws were in place before the problem, and why weren't they enforced in the first place? Show me an aspect of American life that has NOT been touched by regulation, and I will show you a unicorn that farts rainbows and sunshine.
* There are at least TWO areas of federal government that I want to see fully funded, with the appropriate fiscal safeguards against fraud, waste, and abuse: the US military (nothing says worthless like being the 2nd most powerful military force on the planet), and NASA. If the private sector wants in on manned space exploration, I'm okay with that as long as we don't see any high powered rockets falling out of the sky over populated areas.
* I have a huge man-crush for current New Jersey governor Chris Christie. His fearless assault on his state's fiscal mess has been nothing less than inspiring. He doesn't care if he is a one-term politician -
the man just wants to stop the red ink that is harming the Garden State.
If loving him is wrong, I don't want to be right. ;-)
