I'm scared to do dungeons because I am a scrub with NPC/quest gear :( I did unlock the first Duty to get into Sastasha. On that note, I have some idea what you mean by the quality of the story, because I've done a decent number of quests that start to frame the greater picture of things in the world.

I find myself a bit overwhelmed because I have no idea what stats to invest in, what good gear looks like, if I should be getting anything special... like, even at stupid low levels in FF11, having insane gear seemed mandatory. We all struggled through Qufim in garbage, and would judge the fuck out of everyone for it. I'm not sure it's the same deal with FF14.

At this point, the game has totally felt like another single player game, but with other people. I totally understand where you're coming from with that. WoW really created an atmosphere where you can be alone for almost the entire time, and then everybody else copied that because it seemed to work.

Speaking of WoW, I really miss the bright and colorful Blizzard aesthetics. FF14 feels so dark and muddy in comparison that at nighttime I often have no clue what the hell I'm looking at. Granted, that's what real life wooded areas are like, but this is a game.

I might be able to hop on tonight or Saturday.

Don't worry too much about the quality of your gear and dump all of your meripos onto STR (You're LNC right?). Unlike the past, I don't have time to read up on theorycrafts to min/max my character. So I just learn the game on my own and figure out what I think is best for my character. Games nowadays are easy enough to get by without max'ing your character out.

There was a VERY clear path outlined for upgrading leveling gear in XI. You hit lv7, get the Leather set, hit lv21 (or 24?) for Nomad's mantle... Spike Necklace, Brigandine, Life Belt. You knew exactly what you had to get for every level. But 14 is more like WoW. People don't really care what you're wearing because non-optimal gear doesn't penalize you that much (I'm strictly speaking with regard to leveling). Gear yourself with quest rewards. You can also buy gears through vendors (that are exact copies of gears from quests).

I will be in the city for conference until Sunday =/ I'll catch you on aim
