You know, I like early mornings. I like the cool air and the quiet and being able to spend a few minutes with my farmer husband before he heads out...but 4:45 is a bit on the OMG you've got to be kidding side of things.
For the last couple of days, Belle has decided that 4:45 is a good time for the great taste of dog food. She comes in to the bedroom and does her cat routine, where she rubs her sides on the edge of the bed. All things considered, I'd rather her wake me like that than the blood curdling wails that she usually opts for. An adrenaline rush first thing in the morning is not a good way to start your day. Of course when Belle is up that wakes Monty up and when Monty is up Jetta wants in on the doings. It's pointless to try to sleep through three dogs wanting a pee and breakfast.
They are settling in very nicely. Belle sleeps and is very good about appropriately letting Jetta know to leave her alone. Monty is ever so slowly learning to assert himself. He gives a lot of hints, but isn't very insistent about his space being respected. Good thing Jetta grew up with a lot of dogs and is good about getting the hint, unless she gets really wound up. Jetta is spending nearly all day free in the house. I close all the doors to the rooms we aren't in, so she can't wander off. That leaves her the three main rooms that are all connected and open, where we spend most of our awake time. It's pretty well picked up, but there are things that she could get into if she really wanted to. she's doing an amazing job of chewing only on the dog toys.
I found a neon pink collar in the odds and ends bin downstairs. I also got some small bells from the farm store yesterday. The combination of the very bright collar against her black coat and the bells is making it much easier for me to keep track of her. We've had two more mealtimes with perfect behavior. She's doing great in the house, with the other dogs and relieving.
I need to work on door manners with all the dogs. Honestly Monty and Belle are kind of crazy when people come and that isn't helping Jetta. I need to get that all sorted out before it escalates into a bigger mess. Monty is also barking, which inspires Jetta to bark, not good. And Jetta doesn't like Sidney very much. They don't need to be best friends, but I think she needs to get over actively avoiding him and randomly barking at him. In her defense, he does tend to disappear in his room or downstairs for long periods of time and then pops out of seemingly nowhere. Jetta is like whoa, where'd you come from?
So one small thing to work on with Jetta and two things to work on with all the dogs. Not too bad, nope not too bad at all. If it was going any better, I'd think something was wrong.
