well, it was a good try

So today, I worked Monty on our typical leisure path at some crazy early hour, while it was still raining a bit. The cool temps and the light rain were so refreshing. August is so miserable here. Monty is a love though. He's needing extra reassurance, but he's doing pretty well.

Last night he and Jetta had a good game of tug. I was afraid for my knee caps and the TV. I herded them outside so they could play no holds barred, but it's sortta hot out there and that zapped all the fun right out of that game. We went back inside. I put the tug toy away, so they decided a game of run laps like mad sounded like a good idea. That set the plant stand wobbling. I was having visions of all the destruction they could impart so I got out chew bones to distract them into something calmer.

I'm actually really happy to see them playing. It's good for both of them. Perhaps I'll scoot all the downstairs furniture out of the way and they can use that big space as the rompus room. It's cooler down there too.

Later this morning I worked Jetta in harness just around the neighborhood a bit. We did a bit of sidewalkless and a couple of weird corners. She hasn't missed a curb yet. I just realized that. I also realized that I was using the leash to direct her too much. she does better with verbal coaching.

She likes to look at everything. I'm letting her look unless turning her head starts to cause our line of travel to change. She has to keep that line. She does really good like 95% of the time, which is amazing for how young she is and the fact that this is only our fourth day together. We had no problems with sniffing this morning at all.

Then it was time to go to work. This would be Jetta's first time to my office. She's been downtown, but not into the building where I work. She worked really well there. She got all the curbs, of course. She's doing much better with the moving turns. I think I indicate them differently and she was confused before. We get to my office in good order, if a bit sweaty. Just as she stops with her feet on the bottom step, one of my coworkers comes out and says, "I don't think you want to go in there. they are testing the fire alarm."

Well, that's great. There's no information at all on when this fire alarm testing is going to be over. They didn't even announce it in advance. I wander around downtown for about 10 minutes. It's probably 95 degrees out there and the humidity is very high. I go back to the building and Jetta remembers and trots right up to the stairs very proud of herself. Seriously she's an incredibly fast learner.

However the fire alarm is still blaring. I've been inside when it's gone off and it's so loud it makes my teeth hurt. Some places in the building also have the strobe lights. I think the foyer is one of those places. I decide that now is not a good time for Jetta to enter the building for the first time.

I'm dripping with sweat. Jetta is panting pretty hard. There is no end in sight for the fire alarm repairs. My headache is getting worse by the minute from the heat. I decide that this is a good day to stay home. I tried and it wasn't meant to be. I can make up some of the missed hours next week.

I'm back home. Jetta and Monty are crashed out by my feet. I'm thinking it's a good time for a nap. Perhaps that will help the headache.

Jetta is such a good girl! I bet she remembers tomorrow where we went today and makes suggestions based on today's adventures.
