"Never forget that everything Hitler did in Germany was legal." -Martin Luther King, Jr.
Do you know what's going on? Have you heard what [Hitler] is doing here?
If the answer is no or even well... kind of, I offer you a link to our Library of Congress-
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h109-4437 Feel enlightened? Try illiterate. What you're trying to look at is the hotly debated HR 4437. If you depend on the text of the bill to reveal its purpose, you can count on spending a few hours trying to decipher the muck of words and webs. As Mike said it is "purposely thick and impossible to digest".
If you're still interested in the impending holocaust, try here-
http://www.justiceforimmigrants.org/HR4437.html You'll find therein all the most appalling points of the bill summarized without sensationalism. Feel free to peruse the facts. Read it twice. Repeat the review until you understand it. if you don't understand it, ask me and we'll talk.
May 1st, four generations of my family are joining people all over the country in boycotting work, school, and all businesses. We will refrain from purchasing anything (no jokes about stocking up the day before, please. I've heard them already). If the American people purport that we are a drain on the economy, then for one day we will remove ourselves from it. You can boycott with us, and join the march. It doesn't take a certain skin color to be part of the response.
This bill cannot pass. It is a gateway for further motions of atorocity from our federal government. Pay attention. This affects you regardless of your ethnic makeup.
Who are your local reps? What is their stance on it? What do you think about this? I'm not asking so you can tell me. I'm reminding you to think. I'm reminding myself to think. As a generation, we were not taught to pay attention to the world around us. As a result, it takes effort and initiative to inform yourself. This is hard at first, but easier with practice.
The government's success is DEPENDENT upon your ignorance and indifference about the world around you. If we are nonchalant now, we will pay the price sooner than we think.
I know this sounds like a flyer on a college campus, but I can't take it anymore. I can't stand it. This particular issue is nearer to my heart than most, but it's only gotten so bad because nobody noticed while it was coming into fruition. Now people are scrambling to translate the issues into Spanish so that immigrants can understand and make decisions. We speak the language. What's our excuse? We have none. Don't be lazy.
I'm teaching my family about why they are boycotting. I'm telling my mom, my grandparents, my brother, and my little cousins. You'd be surprised at what grown people don't know that you can tell them. You'd be surprised at how much the youth will appreciate and contemplate the information you share with them.
Just do something. Don't write this off.
