Everything is a bright, blinding white. Slowly, the world fades into a peaceful summer setting - bright green grass, flowers blooming, birds singing, the works. There is a blanket laid out on the ground, a familiar plaid.
A small child comes running across the lawn. The light is still bright, and however the viewer sees him a reflection off something will make his face impossible to glimpse. There is a sound, the child's laughter as he waves over someone else. A woman, dark haired and wearing a scarf to match the blanket, comes running up to join them.
From the edge of the field, Nagi watches this scene in wonder. He takes a step forward only to back away again, uncertain. Then at last, he begins walking toward the two of them with a large smile on his face.
As he reaches the edge of the blanket, the woman looks up. The smile on her face abruptly fades into a frown. "You can't be here," she states, voice cold.
Nagi freezes. "I..."
The ground beneath him shakes, then opens up into a hole just large enough for him to fall into. With a startled cry, he falls into never-ending darkness.
---
He wakes up with a gasp, staring at the ceiling for a few moments before closing his eyes again. His metal arm, still wrapped in bandages to protect it from the sandstorm, is laid over his face.
If he was going to have to share his dreams, as much as his heart ached, he was grateful it wasn't something far worse.
