it's a bad dream, no one on my side

Peter's first thought, after making sure that Emma and everyone else was okay, was how could he get out of New York, and what was the fastest way to do it. He couldn't spent another day here, not after spending five years of his subconscious life stuck with Sylar in a New York that had very quickly stopped feeling like home. And now the real one left a painfully bad taste in his mouth, and Peter didn't want to be here. Not now. And not without Nathan. After forming some kind of bond with Sylar, the thought of which made him feel ill, all Peter wanted was a few days where his every action wasn't fueled by the need to escape.

The fact that Claire had jumped and the news crews had swooped in, made it easy to make a break for it; everyone was too busy spreading the news as fast as they could to take notice and Peter even managed to duck out from under Sylar's constant neck-breathing. The hard part was finding a place to go, as Peter didn't have a myriad of other friends to rely on. He couldn't call on his mother, and he obviously couldn't call on Claire, and that left Peter with no one, a fact that left him feeling desolate in a city once again full of people.

A glance over his shoulder at the swarming crowd and it occurred to Peter that he could call Spike. The thought made him brim with even more guilt, as he'd taken a step back from the community over the past few months. He hadn't meant to fall off the face of the earth for that long, but he'd lost himself in his work, and then he'd found out about Nathan and everything had happened too fast and too painfully for him to wrap his head around yet. He knew that as soon as he stopped moving, everything would fall in on him, and he didn't exactly want to force that on Spike, but he didn't know what else to do. There wasn't anyone else, no matter which way he looked at it, and he was long past desperate.

Pulling out his cellphone, Peter took a deep breath, pushing his way out of the carnival and trying not to get his hopes too far up as he sucked it up and dialed Spike's number.
