Dear Yuletide Santa!

Nov 22, 2010 15:02

Hehehe safari just totally predicted how to finish the subject line of this post. It can be identical to last year's. I'm cool with that.

So, Dear Santa,

Firstly thanks a bunch for writing anything in advance! You're super cool for it and don't you dare let anyone tell you otherwise (even if, like me, that is sometimes yourself. Don't listen! Those voices in your head are just haters!) I'm sure I'll love anything you write for me because I love getting gifts no matter how big or small and having a story written just for me is certainly better than that time I got soap for christmas from my Grandma (was she dropping a hint? I don't know)

Some general things about my taste in fics: I love gen fics and character studies. I love deconstructing heroes. I love deconstructed heroes. I love heroines in all their delicious colours, textures and flavours and love most female characters who aren't relegated to the sidelines, who stand up, have their own motivations, desires, beliefs, wants, needs, and who aren't cowed in their decision making by the men in their lives. Or if they are, I love reading it like the tragedy it is.

I'm not big on slash, but if it's believable and it doesn't mess around with established characters, relationships or characterisation then I can go with it.

Let's get onto the more specific requests:

Fables (Comic)

I did kind of request this last year, but I still want it so bad. Prince Charming is no longer with us in the comic, bummer: but he's such a popular character amongst the Mundies, they won't last long without him. What would happen if a new Charming arrived from the homelands? Is he a rake like the last one, or an *actual* Prince Charming? Can he integrate into Fabletown and the community, or will he have difficulty fitting in? Bonus points if he has interactions with either his Ex-Wives or any of the other Princesses.

I'm about 15 issues behind on current canon as I've been extreeemly lazy with reading the funnybooks I buy, but really I just want to explore the idea of Prince Charming mark 2, is he the upstanding Disney charming we expected him to be before we actually met him in the comics, or he just as much of a rake as we know and love, ooor is he a funky twisted mix between the two? It doesn't have to be explicit by any stretch of the imagination, but if it goes there I will not be displeased ;)

Beauty and the Beast (Disney)

hat if Belle DID marry Gaston? What would happen to the Beast? Her father? Her? How long would she last, would she ever meet the beast, what would happen to all of the other characters who just got stuck as cutlery and such because of the Beast's mistake?

I love myself some good angsty darkfic, and what better way to mess with my childhood then to go there?

So my friend bought me the newly remastered DVD a month or two back and I've been relishing in reliving my childhood: fun fact, this movie is the first movie I ever saw in a Cinema, I saw it at Christmas time with my mother after we'd just visited Santa with my father and brother, but then my brother got sick so Dad took him home and mum and I went and saw this. I loved it so much that for months and months later every time I saw an ad for it "coming soon" on VHS I threw a mighty tantrum at my parents for not buying it for me NOW.

So please, Santa, stomp all over these fuzzy memories. You totally have my permission.

We all know Gaston was the SMART choice for Belle, you know, rich, respected, totally a piece of attractive mancake, I mean he told us all that himself, and marrying him WOULD'VE saved her dad heaps quicker, AND kept the peace within the town. And Beast clearly was the Romantic choice and calmed down a lot under Belle's presence when it was very clear that he was going a bit insane with anger at his situation at the start of the film. She did that whole "Haha, I totally changed this man to be good simply by being around the goodness of my presence" sort of thing, which we all know TOTALLY WORKS IN REAL LIFE.

Don't be afraid to make me cry, s'all I'm saying. Everyone knows I'm a weepy tear bucket anyway and I love the catharsis.

Carnivale

Any sort of Ben character study. He was always my favourite character, and I found his stoicism and quiet benevolence beautiful, but in so many ways he's so broken by the world.

Remember before how I said I loved heroes? And how I loved deconstructed heroes? Ben is kind of my favourite of all of those because of how wonderfully overwhelmed he constantly is, and confused, and yet he has such an amazing capacity for compassion that is unrivaled by anyone else in the show (and I think sort of his defining characteristic) and yet occasionally he is such an asshole.

I ship Ben/Sofie, but I'd take anything with him in it :D

That's about it for now. Once again, TYVM for your time and dedication and <3 and I hope your silly season ahead is wonderful. If you have any questions re me PM zenni or cajun_chick411 and they will assist you because they know my brain inside out and could've probably written this letter on my behalf.

Have a wonderful Yuletide!

♥ Kathy
