I was walking by a church today while they were having an evening service, and I noticed a van parked rather close to the intersection. Upon a second look, I noticed it was actually blocking a fire hydrant! For shame, going to church and breaking a law just to get a close parking spot. I passed a police department soon after. I seriously considered reporting it, but I decided that because I'm not a spiteful person, I'd be nice to that person. In fact, the police would likely wonder why I was reporting such a minor offense. I've never talked to a cop without them suspecting me of something, except when they're shopping somewhere I'm working.
After I passed the police department, I continued to think on it. Blocking a fire hydrant is illegal for a reason. It's a safety hazard. I'd be doing the whole block a service by reporting it. Sure, it would make me feel giddy to report somebody breaking the law while they were at church acting like a good person, but the motivating factor ultimately is that they were doing something very dangerous, PLUS they're setting a bad example. I can see the headline now, "Church burns down, a member is to blame". Not funny in any way, but humorously ironic.
I wish I had reported it. I'm not driving over there just for that, though, and it's not urgent enough for 911(I don't know the church's address anyway). Chances are, though, that they have a ticket anyway, because being 3 blocks from the police department, they'll have a few police cars pass them before service is over, and the police should know where the fire hydrants are.
