Ryan walked up to the door of Bishops Academy for Boys at exactly seven in the morning with Jon by his side and a subdued face on.
“Are you ready?” Jon asked looking over and smiling.
“Golly, I can’t wait,” Ryan answered with insincere grin, and then going back to his straight face and staring at the big door in front of him.
Jon laughed and opened the door. Ryan pulled on his shirt, straightened his tie, and walked into the building. Ryan nervously rubbed his hands together and sighed.
“It’s going to be okay, Ry,” Jon reassured him.
“Okay,” he said taking a deep breath and walking forward.
“Ryan, the office is this way,” Jon called laughing and walking the opposite way.
“Oh,” Ryan said blushing and walking the way Jon was now heading. Jon snickered as he opened the big, green metal door that said Head Master printed in big letters on it.
“Hello, Mr. Rizzo?” Jon said peering in and then taking a step.
“Yes,” Mr. Rizzo answered with a masculine, coarse voice.
“This is Ryan. He is the boy that I told you about the other day,” Jon said pointing at Ryan as he walked into the room.
“Ah, yes,” Mr. Rizzo said finally pulling his eyes away from his computer and looking at Ryan and getting up.
“Here’s your locker number and combination,” he said handing him a piece of paper with numbers on it. “And here’s your gym uniform. I see you already got your everyday uniform. And you look very nice in it,” he said handing Ryan a pair of navy blue sweatpants and a grey shirt that had the Bishops Academy emblem by the shoulder.
“Thanks,” Ryan said bringing the clothes to his chest and crossing his arms.
“Also, here are your classes. You are mostly in classes with Jon. Except for one,” he said pointing to Science.
“Oh, okay. That’s good,” Ryan said grinned towards Jon, who smiled back to him.
“Okay, well go get ready for your first day of school,” Mr. Rizzo said smiling at both of them and sitting back down at his desk.
Ryan and Jon walked down the hallway to Ryan’s locker.
“Hmm… Not as dressed up as my locker at my old school but I can change that,” Ryan said admiring his new locker.
“Oh, you’ll get in trouble for that,” Jon said laughing softly.
“Well, this is going to suck isn’t?” Ryan said looking at the piece of paper with his combination on it and opened his locker.
“You‘ll get all your books in your classes,” Jon said.
“Oh, okay. Well what’s my first class?” Ryan asked looking at the other piece of paper the head master had handed him. He read that his first class was Math. His most hated subject. He sighed.
“What?” Jon asking looking at the paper.
“I hate math. I suck at it,” he said looking at Jon.
“Its okay, Ms. Ried, the math teacher, is really nice. And she is helpful too. But if you still don’t get it I’m pretty good at it so I can help you too.” Jon said with a smile. “Okay math is that way,” he said pointing the right of them. And started to walk to where he had pointed. Ryan took a deep breath and followed him.
“Class, we have a new student. His name is Ryan,” the teacher, Ms. Ried, said pointing to Ryan in the back of the room. Everyone turned to where he was seating and stared. Ryan could feel his cheeks start to burn and he knew he was all red. Therefore, he bit his lip and then looked at the ground.
Ryan walked into the cafeteria holding his books to his chest and looking around the room like a lost child at Disney World. He was so confused on where to go. He saw the line to get food, but he did not know where to sit. He looked around for Jon but did not see him anywhere. He stood on his toes to look over the tall people’s heads. But still did not see him. He felt someone poke his side causing him to jump and turn around. He saw Jon laughing.
“Looking for me?” he said after he finished laughing.
“Yeah, I don’t know where to sit.”
“Right over here,” Jon stated walking over to a table and setting his book on it. Ryan did the same. “Now we get food.” Jon said smiling and walking to the line of kids in front of a counter. Ryan followed looking at all the kids around him.
“This is kind of a big school,” he said as he grabbed a blue tray from a stack.
“Yeah, I guess,” he said as he nodded to the lunch lady, who had asked him if he wanted some mashed potatoes. After they got their lunch they sat back where that had put their books.
“Hey Spencer! Over here,” Jon yelled at a boy that had just walked into the cafeteria. “This is Spencer. He is new this year, too,” Jon said once Spencer had reached the table.
“Spence, this is Ryan.”
“Nice to meet you,” Spencer said putting out his hand to shake Ryan’s.
Ryan smiled shyly and shook his hand. Spencer took the seat across from Jon and opened the book that he was holding.
“What are you studying for?” Jon asked peering at the book.
“A fucking English test that I have after lunch,” Spencer replied, and then groaned.
Ryan listened and ate quietly as the two talked about upcoming tests and other things they had. He was beginning to miss Brendon and his friends at his old school. He decided that he would go see Brendon after school.
Ryan walked into science class uneasily, biting his lip as the teacher introduced him again to the class. This was his first class without Jon in the room, which made him a little nervous.
“Hey Ryan, I’m William” the boy sitting next to Ryan whispered to him as the teacher wrote something on the board.
“Hi, William,” Ryan answered, smiling to the boy next to him.
“How’s your first day going?” William asked.
“Fine, I like it better then my old school,” Ryan replied smiling again.
“I’m glad,” William replied flashing a gorgeous smile at Ryan then turning back to his work since the teacher had turned around.
The final bell rang. Ryan left the classroom and put all the books he had gotten during the day in his locker.
“See you later Ryan,” Ryan heard from behind him. He turned around to see William walking by him. Ryan had not notice how tall William was until now. Even though he was not much taller then Ryan. His skinniness made him look even taller.
“Bye William,” Ryan said smiling. He just could not help it. It was as if whenever he looked at William he had to smile. He kept smiling as he grabbed his book bag out of his locker and swung it over his shoulders.
‘What are you smiling about?” Jon asked as he walked by Ryan.
“Oh, nothing,” Ryan said still smiling.
“So, what are you going to do today?” Jon asked when they were on the way home.
“I think I might go see Brendon, my friend at my old school, because I haven’t seen him for a while and yeah I kind of miss him,” Ryan affirmed.
“Oh, okay,” Jon said. Ryan could hear a bit of disappointment in his voice.
“Why did you have plans?” Ryan inquired.
“Not really, I just was wondering if you wanted to get something to eat. But if you want to go see your friend I can go drop you off and then I’ll go get some McDonalds or something,” Jon answered staring at the road.
“Well here, I’ll tell you what. How about you drop me off at Brendon’s and then you can go home and do you homework. Since I noticed your backpack is a little heavy, and then when you are done with that you can come pick me up. Then you and I can go grab a bite to eat,” Ryan said with a satisfied smile and looking at Jon. He figured he could spend time with both of his friends.
“Yeah, I guess that can work,” Jon retorted.
“Okay, turn there,” Ryan said pointing down a street to the right.
“Now he is 5 houses down… RIGHT THERE!” Ryan said pointing out of the window at Brendon’s house. He saw Brendon’s car outside and sighed a sigh of relief, he was worried he wasn’t going to be home. “Aw, you past it!”
“Okay, Ryan breath, seriously calm down, I can go back,” Jon said laughing and driving in another drive way to turn around.
“Sorry, I don’t know I’m just really excited. But I have no idea why, I just saw him like last week,” Ryan said grinning and jumping a little in his seat as Jon drove into Brendon’s driveway.
“Okay, I’ll call you later if I want to get picked up early, and if you get done with your homework before I’m ready call my cell phone, You got the number right?” Ryan asked getting out of the car and bending down on the door so he could still see in the car.
“Yeah I do, have fun, Ry,” Jon said smiling then backing out of the driveway.
Ryan walked up to Brendon’s house. He had forgot him and Brendon were fighting, but he really didn‘t care anymore, he wanted to see his friend. He ran up the steps and knocked on the door. After a few minutes, Brendon opened the door.
“BRENDON!” Ryan exclaimed, hugging his friend as if he had not seen him for years. Even though it had only been about 2 weeks. He was just used to seeing him everyday.
“Oh my God, Ryan!” Brendon shrieked enfolding him in his arms and burying his face in his neck. “I thought you ran away and you weren’t coming back. I swear I was about to break down,” Brendon said but it was muffled in Ryan’s neck. Ryan could feel some hot tears on his neck.
“Aw, it’s okay Bren,” Ryan said rubbing his friends back to calm him. “You know I wouldn’t leave without saying goodbye, or taking you with me. I would stick you in my suit case,” Ryan laughed a little.
“Well, I thought that because we were fighting the last time I saw you and I thought you were mad at me and just left,” Brendon said pulling away from Ryan’s neck but not letting go of him.
“Even if I was furious with you, I think I would have at least come to tell you I was leaving,” Ryan said smiling.
“Brendon, Close the door!” Brendon’s mom said walking towards them. “Oh! Ryan,” she exclaimed throwing her arms up and embracing him in a hug.
“Hi, Ms. Urie,” Ryan said laughing.
“You don’t know how much Brendon was worried about you,” she said letting go of him and looking over at Brendon.
“Yeah he told me,” Ryan said smiling and waving over at Brendon’s grandma who was sitting in the living room.
“Okay, well, me and Ry are going to hang out in my room, okay?” Brendon asked going on step back and turning to his mom for her answer.
“Yeah, of course,” she answered smiling at me. “You two have fun.”
The two ran up the stairs and into Brendon’s bedroom.
“So, where have you been?” Brendon asked sitting on his bed and patting next to him. Ryan sat down where he had patted.
“Well, at first I was sleeping in a bus stop. Which sucked,” Ryan started rolling his eyes.
“That’s horrible,” Brendon putting his hand on Ryan’s shoulder.
“Yeah, but then I met this guy, his name is Jon. Oh my god, Brendon, he is gorgeous,” Ryan said smiling. Brendon laughed.
“So? What happened with this Jon?” Brendon asked.
“Well, we talked and I told him what was going on and he invited me to stay with him and stuff. So yeah, that’s where I’m at right now.”
“That’s a relief. At least I know your okay. I really wish you could stay here but my dad would say no. Plus your dad has been here a couple of times looking for you we keep telling him you are not here but he insists you are. He goes through the whole house looking for you. He is either really worried about you…” Brendon was saying before being interrupted by Ryan.
“Yeah right,” Ryan said under his breath and rolling his eyes.
Brendon went on. “But yeah, he never finds you because you’re aren’t here, so I guess its better your with someone he doesn’t know.”
“You have to promise me you won’t tell him and you have to make your parents promise too. Oh yeah, and your grandma. Please Brendon.”
“Why would I tell him, Ry? Ha-ha.” Brendon said looking at Ryan.
“I don’t know. Just make sure it doesn’t slip,” Ryan warned.
“Okay, I promise. And I’ll make my family promise too. No need to worry about it at all.”
“Thank you, Brendon.” Ryan said reaching over and pulling his friend into a hug.
“Okay, now what do you want to do?” Brendon asked after Ryan let go of him.
“ Hmm… I don’t know, Bren. What do you want to do?” Ryan asked smiling.
“How about we look at old pictures. From like 9th grade,” he said laughing, “I found them two days ago. Some of them are hilarious.”
They grabbed many pictures out of a drawer.
“Oh my god, Brendon! Look at me!” Ryan exclaimed shoving a picture in Brendon’s face.
Brendon cracked up. “That’s after we went to that park and you fell off the slide. That was really funny,” he said and then went back to looking through the pictures again.
“Oh my. Look at this one, Ry,” Brendon said laughing and giving Ryan the picture.
“You were a such a geek!” Ryan exclaimed falling back on the floor and laughing. Then he looked at the picture again and started snickering again.
“Well at least I didn’t look like this…” Brendon said throwing a picture at him and then starting to laugh.
“What are you saying? I look hot! I would fuck me,” Ryan said trying to give a stern look at Brendon but ended up cracking up.
“Oh my gawd, Ryan, look at you in this one!” Brendon exclaimed showing him the picture.
“Whoa!” Ryan exclaimed jumping in the air.
“What?” Brendon said looking up at him confused.
“My phone. It vibrated.”
“Well, answer it,” Brendon said giggling.
Ryan looked at the caller ID and saw it was Jon.
“It’s Jon. One minute,” he said to Brendon and then opened the phone.
“Hey Jon, done with your homework?”
“God, you sound like my mother,” Jon said laughing.
Ryan laughed. “Well, if you don’t finish it you’re grounded!” Ryan teased. “But are you done?”
Ryan heard Jon laugh on the other line. “Yeah, I’m done. Are you ready to go eat something?”
“Yeah sure, I’ll see you in a couple minutes. Do you remember how to get here?”
“Yeah I do. See ya soon,” Jon said and then hung up.
“Okay Brendon, Jon and I are going to go get some food. He will be here in a minute or two.”
“Okay,” Brendon said sighing and looking a little upset.
“Brendon, it’s not like I’m going to a different state or anything. Ha-ha. I will be back. Hey maybe I’ll call you tomorrow and you can come over to Jon’s and we can all hang out together. You and him will really get along great. I know it,” Ryan said smiling as he heard a car horn outside.
“Okay he is here. I’ll call you tomorrow, I promise!” Ryan hugged Brendon goodbye and ran down the stairs.
“Bye Ms. Urie!” He yelled to her and then went out the front door.
“So where do you want to go?” Ryan asked once he was in the car.
“Uh. How about Wendy’s?” Jon suggested.
“Nah.”
“You suck.”
“I know. But how about McDizzle?”
Jon looked over at Ryan with a weird look, raising an eyebrow. “What the fuck, Ryan?” he said and then burst out laughing. “Mcdizzle?”
“Oh, it’s this thing that Brendon and I made up last year. We were listening to Snoop Dogg what can I say?” Ryan said also giggling.
“I take it its McDonalds?” Jon said between laughs.
‘Yeah, and its right there!” Ryan exclaimed as they past the driveway.
“Jeez Ry, you have to warn me earlier. You did that at Brendon’s too.” Jon said smiling as he pulled into a different parking lot and turned around.
They got their food and went back to Jon’s house. After eating Jon went into his room and Ryan cleaned up and took a shower.
“Oh shit!” Ryan heard Jon yell and then a big thump came out of the room as he got out of the shower. Ryan quickly put on his pants.
“What?” Ryan asked as he ran into Jon’s room to find him on the floor. Ryan busted out laughing. Jon looked up and laughed too.
“I guess I have to much clothes,” he said as he got up and tried to zip his suitcase again.
“Oh shit!” Ryan exclaimed hitting his palm to his head.
“What’s wrong with you?” Jon asked looking up at Ryan, still trying to zip the suitcase.
“Well, I forgot you were leaving tomorrow and I invited Brendon over for dinner with us.”
“Well, you and him can have dinner here tomorrow and then when I come back in three weeks we can all have dinner together,” Jon said smiling up at Ryan as he finally closed his suitcase and brushed his hands off.
“Your so smart!” Ryan exclaimed and skipped out of the room to call Brendon.
The next day Ryan and Jon got dressed and headed off to school.
“Here, I’m going to give you my car for the three weeks I’m gone,” Jon said throwing Ryan the keys and sitting in the passenger seat of his car.
“How are you getting to you’re mom’s house? Wait I thought you didn’t get along with your parents isn’t that why you live here?” Ryan asked once they were in the car.
“Well, I’m really going to see my sister. She’s really the only one in the family that’s doesn’t hate me,” Jon said buckling his seat belt. Ryan decided not to say anything more about it.
At lunch Ryan sat with Jon and Spencer again.
“How are you getting to Michigan if I have your car?” Ryan asked.
“Well my aunt who lives here is going to drive me and my cousin up there,” Jon answered. She should be here right after lunch so basically any minute.
“Oh,” Ryan said. He could feel how much he was going to miss Jon already.
They got up and threw out their garbage and sat down again, waiting for Jon’s aunt.
“Well, I got class. I’ll talk to you later Ry. Bye Jon,” Spencer said hugging Jon and then walking out of the cafeteria.
“There she is,” Jon said getting up. “Can you help me get my things out of my car?” he asked.
“Yeah, of course,” Ryan also getting up.
When they got out to the car Jon popped open the trunk and pulled out a bag.
“Here, take it to that car over there,” he said handing Ryan the bag and pointing to a van.
Ryan put the bag on the ground next to the car.
“Okay, well I guess I’ll see you in three weeks,” Jon said rubbing his shoulder and looking at the ground.
Ryan felt the butterflies in his stomach, but went with his gut instinct and pulled Jon’s chin so he was looking at him. They stared into each others eyes for a couple seconds. Then Ryan pressed his lips to Jon’s kissing him passionately. When he pulled away he saw Jon’s eyes big with surprise and he felt he had made a HUGE mistake. So he did what first came to his mind, he ran. He ran through the school, he heard Jon yelling his name behind him but he didn’t stop he kept running until he found the computer lab. The only room with a lock on the door. He ran into the room and locked the door. Then he leaned against it and slid down to the ground bring his legs to his chest and putting his head on his knees. He started to cry. He didn’t quite know why he started to cry but he did. Maybe it was because he was scared Jon was going to reject him.
After he heard the bell ring he figured Jon probably left and was off on the road to Michigan. So he unlocked the door and opened it slowly. He stuck his head out into the hallway and looked around to see if Jon was waiting for him out there.
When he saw that the coast was clear he stepped out and began to walk to his locker. He decided to go to the nurse and go home early. So he could be alone for the rest of the day and just sulk in the apartment for the rest of the day.
As he walked to his locker he noticed there was a note stuck on it. He walked up to it and saw his name on the front of it.
He opened it:
appreciated
Ryan,
Kiss me forever, I’ll be happy
Kiss me never, I’ll be miserable
Kiss me once… and that’s just agony.
Jon.
