I really think so. Like the soldiers of the great Chinese empire before me, I have failed to successfully invade Japan. But it wasn't for lack of trying! I spent months in the library putting together a research proposal and searching for funding. All that worked out pretty well, but the joke was one me when I turned down the University of Michigan. The other two schools, both private schools in Tokyo, rejected my American ass, and I had to wait so long to get their responses that I missed the Michigan program entirely, which sucks doubly because I could have funded that with American financial aid, whereas I could not use that money for Tokyo schools. The whole thing is a big mess.
On the other hand, no Japan means more Dallas, which is always a good thing. With Waleed having gotten his new apartment, this next year is looking up. Also, the Denton kids have moved to Dallas, so that's a lot of fun, too. There are definitely perks to staying with friends and loved ones, as opposed to launching a one man invasion of a far off land.
Oh, and I'm so over working at that sandwich shop downstairs. The free food is fantastic and works with my new diet of wheat, low fat meats, and other flavorless crap; but the money is awful and so are the hours. I'm applying to work as a clerk in a medical malpractice defense firm downtown in Fountain Place (the large, bluish green glass building that comes to a sharp point). This job has several perks. First, it pays a lot more, so I can finally start paying off my credit cards and buying the things I want. Second, it puts me in touch with attorneys, which might be useful for making up my mind about law school. Who knows? I might like medical malpractice defense. At least then I could help out Haggerty when people try to sue him in the future.
So right now, it's all options and possibilities. I'm also trying to get in shape and begin a workout routine. We'll see how that goes. I can't imagine committing myself to a regular schedule. If I were going to do something like that, it seems that I would have already done it.
Anyway, no Japan, more Dallas.
