so, my train was only 25 minutes late on thursday. which was good, considering the weather. w00t!!
but here's the interesting story of the month...wednesday, december 22nd, 2004. around noon. i'm sitting at the computer in my room in Ottawa, everyone else has gone home for the holidays, and i have an exam at 7pm. i hear water running. i go downstairs to the kitchen to see if i had left the tap on. but no. so i go to the basement. THERE'S WATER EVERYWHERE!!
it's leaking in from the vents and the lights in the ceiling in my finished basement. all over Kit's stuff. so i start panicking and call Daddy, who tries to tell me how to turn off the water, but i don't know where the water turnoff is. so i email the landlord after calling all 3 numbers i have for him. he calls me back and says he'll be over right away. i get out the pots and pans and buckets to collect the water, and try to bring Kit's electronics and paper-y stuff that will be destroyed if it stays down there. there's water coming in from 5 places. it's not a little trickle, oh no. it's cascading down. it's like Niagara Falls got up and relocated to my basement. the carpet is so soaked that the water is no longer being absorbed, and i'm standing in 2cm of freezing cold water, trying to dump it all out. Landlord nonchalantly comes over, asks where the water is...EVERYWHERE!! walks down the stairs to the basement..."OH MY GOD!!" Shawna comes over, landlord turns off the water. a pipe has burst, and lindsay has no water. 6 hours before her exam. thus, i had to go over to shawna's apartment to use the bathroom, and wash my face and brush my teeth. the silver lining in this, is when i was in the elevator coming out of the apartment, a lady got into the elevator with me. she looked at me and said, "do you want a lift???" without knowing who i was or where i was going. so i told her i was going to carleton and if it was on her way. she said she was going downtown so she'd drive me. so that was nice. we talked about Christmas and life, and school...but i never got her name. and i never told her mine. i just thought it was awesome to meet someone like that. the exam went well, i think, and i went over to shawn's afterwards for some swiss chalet festive special-ness.
on friday, my mom and dad and i went to UAC for their Christmas pageant before going to the church so that i could practice for our pageant. i got roped into singing again, but this time a solo..."Breath of Heaven". and a group on "Once in Royal David's City", and as one of the magi for "We Three Kings". Erin was sick, but she still made it out, which was good. we didn't go to the midnight candle service for the first time in years though, cuz no one would stay with me.
Christmas...i got a fondue set, the U2 CD, a bonsai tree, a blender, pyjamas, a crock pot, and the Rolling Stones Toronto concert DVD. and more Stitches...like as in Disney. i got the New Year's 2005 one on my bed on tuesday from Chris Miss, an the winter one from my grandparents. we did the usual turkey thing, and then came home and watched "White Christmas".
on Boxing Day i went out with my Dad and my brother and we went shopping. i bought another pair of $100 shoes on sale for $29.99, 2 tank tops, and a new belt at the Boathouse sale...i love that store. we also got a new TV!! (our old one broke) and then i went to Nana's house with Erin since the Ontario group of granddaughters were taking Nana out for brunch and a movie. we ate breakfast at Toby's, which was surprisingly good. then we saw "The Phantom of the Opera" movie version...all of us except Hannah had already seen it live. it wasn't as bad as i had expected it to be...the chandelier fell late, and there was a noticeable lyric change with it. they added some more history behind the actual character of Erik, or the Phantom, as well as behind the actual opera house and where the still living characters are in 1919, when the play starts. and the effects were good. but otherwise, it was good...i'd definitely buy it on DVD.
then i went to Shawn's house for dinner with both our families...it was the first time they had ever met, so i was a little nervous about it. but it went really well. i got a Mandarin calendar from Brendan (his brother), some Timmy's gift certificates, mints, and Turtles from his parents, and A LOT of stuff from Shawn. i got a new ceramic hair straightener, another Stitch (i now have 10!!), an Evanescence DVD/CD, hair products, a Latin/English dictionary, an aquarium with rocks and a plant, and a lot of Lindors. he also said he left something for me in Ottawa. I gave him the guitar, the stand, pyjamas, and an Evanescence guitar book. we got our parents the picture of us that we had taken a few weeks ago, and i finally gave his mom the Josh Groban CD she asked me for a year ago. Shawn got the Evanescence DVD/CD from my parents, and he gave them Turtles and Fererro Rocher chocolates.
i stayed over at Shawn's that night to go with his family to visit their cousins in Burlington, one of whom happens to be a friend of mine. i knew Sarah before i knew Shawn, and i think it's funny that they're related. anyway, we played the 90's editiion of Trivial Pursuit, which Sarah, Shawn and I came in 2nd by a single question. ah well...we'll continue our winning streak next year!!
and now i'm home for the next two days before shipping off to Ottawa again. hopefully my water will be back on by the time i get there, or i'll be living at Shawn's. I hope everyone had a relaxing break, and a great Christmas. I wish everyone the best in 2005, and please keep in touch.
and if anyone wants to hang out before the 30th, gimme a call either at home or on my cell, and i'll see what we can do. ;)
