romance review

No, seriously. MaryJanice Davidson is my new favorite author for what the industry calls "romance novels", or as I like to call it, "girl porn." She is the only author I can recall ever actually laughing out loud due to reading her/his work. She writes "paranormal romance", which means that there's a lot of werewolves/vampires/cyborgs(!) in her books, but the characters in her stories are also very -real-. Here's an excerpt:

(backstory first: the guy werewolf and the girl PhD/sorceress are on a mission to save the world, and are forced to camp together because they can't get any hotel rooms due to leaving a traceable money trail. Please note, I didn't pick the damn names!)

... He'd talk to Sara, that's what he'd do.
"Sara," Derik whispered.
Nothing.
"Listen, Sara--" I really really like you, and you smell great, and I think your powers are really cool, if kind of terrifying, and oddly enough this makes you more appealing than any female I've ever known, and I definitely think we should fuck--oh, shit, I mean make love, you know, whatever--and then we can cuddle and I can get SOME FUCKING SLEEP.
"Sara?"
A light snore for an answer.
"Shit."
Saving the world was going to be harder than he thought.

End excerpt. So, I've currently got six books by her in my room. Go check her out.
