As almost all of you know, I'm planning on doing some relief work over the next few years in different countries -- my targets are India, Africa, Philippines, China, South America, and the South Pacific.
So far, the only destination that is for certain is India -- and Unless by some miracle of God my Peace Corps application is accepted, I will be paying for these trips out of my own pocket. Which is unfortunate because I will have to leave for a few months, then come back, then leave, then come back ... you get the idea. I would much rather be gone for a year (or more) at a time. This makes more sense because I could actually get entire projects done -- instead of just starting one and then having to leave because of my financial situation.
Really the big burden is airfare, not living expenses. In any of those countries (excluding China) it is very VERY easy to live off a few american dollars every month.
Anyway, to the point:
There are a lot of organizations and individuals out there who sponsor people like me to go out and do good things like this. Mostly NGO's but a lot of philantrapists as well (rich old guilty people ... no I'm kidding :) but sort of serious).
There is no real direct way to find or contact these kinds of places and people -- because in a sense you're basically saying "hey can I have money?" and no matter how noble the cause ... you're still looking for a hand out.
So I made this website, and before I actually put it online I wanted to know what you all thought of it...and if you had any suggestions of things I might want to add to it.
