\Kibum walked out the door with Jinki at his side; his face turned bright read as the other firmly grabbed his hand in his after he locked the front door. The taller of the two dragged Kibum toward his black car. Once at the car Jinki opened the door for Kibum who happy climbed in to escape from the chilly air. “Thank you,” He quietly said before Jinki shut the door and walked around to his side.
“Seatbelt.” Jinki stated softly as he put the key into the ignition; the car started with a slow rumble, which tickled Kibum’s stomach. The soft sound of the radio came on soon after; soft jazz filled the air of the car. It was a comforting sound and made Kibum relax in his seat. Jinki looked over at the other and smiled before slowly backing out of the driveway. He drove out of the neighborhood, all was quiet except for the sound of the music, it was getting quiet awkward for Kibum.
“So where are we going?” Kibum asked, tying to start conversation.
“To eat,” Jinki replied with a chuckle.
“Where?” The other asked with a confused gaze.
“It’s a surprise” Jinki replied flashing Kibum a bright smile, “So, Kibum, why does Taemin call you Umma?”
“He has ever since he was little.” Kibum replied playing with his finger as he thought back to the days of Taemin’s childhood. The boy has always called him Umma, ever since he adopted him. When Kibum became a parent Taemin was already five and had been moving from home to home.
“I bet he was such a cute baby.” Jinki replied as they stopped at a red light.
“I wish I was able to see him as a baby, I adopted him when he was six.” The other replied looking out to the street where a man stood with a woman, he had obviously just proposed or gave a confession of some kind because the couple were holding each other quite tightly. The image almost made him want to crawl up underneath the dashboard, but then he remembers whom he was sitting next to.
“Why six?” Jinki asked as the light turned green again and the car began to inch forward.
“My partner at the time didn’t want a child at all; I begged and begged and finally he gave in. The only condition he gave me was no babies, he said ‘all they did was cry and poop’, which is true, but they’re so cute. After much discussion we ended up adopting Taemin.” Kibum replied as a small smile spread across his face as he thought back to bringing that little boy into his family, how happy he was to finally have a child.
“What happened, with your partner, I mean.” Jinki asked after a long while.
“About two years after adopting Taemin, he said that he couldn’t take being a parent. That there was no time for him, and all my time was focused on either work or Taemin or something Taemin related. He told me to choose between Taemin and him of course I chose Taemin. He left; neither I nor Taemin have heard from him since.” Kibum explained as he looked from the corner of his eye to watch Jinki’s reaction. The slience between them was unbareable, he almost came out and said ‘you can just drop me off here’, when he replied.
“What an ass.” Jinki stated making Kibum Jump. “I mean seriously, how do you just leave a child and a loving person like that? Taemin just as much as that guy’s responsibility as he is yours, he shouldn’t have left such a sweet kid.” He shook his head as he turned down a road, “I hate people like that, who just leave.”
“Do you have any children?” Kibum asked as he pulled into the parking lot of a restaurant. The exterior was decorated with well-groomed shrubbery and a sign that named the restaurant in fancy lettering.
“That would require marriage.” Jinki stated calmly as he parked the car at the far end of the parking lot, which puzzled Kibum since there were plenty of opened spots closer to the entrance. Why did he have to pick on all the way out here? Kibum knew it would be rude to ask so he just held his tongue. “I’ve never been good with dating, so a long enough relationship never came.”
“Really, a guy like you, not good at dating?” Kibum asked removing his seatbelt, the strap returned to its holder with a quick ‘zip’ as Kibum looked across the seat to watch Jinki remove his own.
“When Taemin asked me to take you out, I about flipped,” Jinki replied before turning off the car and putting the keys in the pocket of his Jacket. He just sat there a moment as stared at the steering wheel before smiling up at the other, “Shall we go in?” Kibum nodded before reaching for the handle of his door. “Hold on” Jinki commanded before quickly getting out of his door, he nearly tripped on the seatbelt that somehow ending up getting stuck on his foot. He shut it softly before making a fast-paced walk to Kibum’s side. With a warm smile, he slowly opened the door and held his hand out for the other to take. A blushing Kibum took it slowly a stood up, he walked round the door, his hand still in Jinki’s, before Jinki shut it with a loud thud.
After readjusting their hands, Jinki began to pull Kibum to the entrance. Kibum looked up and watched Jinki’s face as they walked, he got so lost in it that he tripped over his own feet and began to descend. His face would of hit the pavement if he weren’t for Jinki who quickly caught he before any damage could come to the other.
“Are you alright Kibum?” Jinki asked pulling the other into a standing position.
“Yeah.” A blushing Kibum replied, he gasped when he felt Jinki’s warm fingers on his cheek. His face turned even redder as the other’s fingers traced his cheek, he finally just had to pull away.
“Are you sure?” the other replied.
“Yeah, can we go in?” Kibum asked, silently hoping a food distraction will take some of the red out of his face. Jinki nodded and grabbed the other’s hand and began walking to the entrance. Kibum tried to keep his eyes on the building, but they kept moving to look at Jinki’s beautiful face. “So you’re Taemin’s coach?” Kibum asked.
“No, I don’t coach Taemin, but I do coach his friend Jonghyun.” The other replied as they reached the door to the restaurant, “I’m not very good though,”
“I bet you are.” Kibum said as the other opened the door for him to walk in. The warm air of the restaurant made Kibum aware that he was cold, the man shivered as he walked further into the building so that Jinki could come in out of the chill too.
“I just started coaching, so it all so new, I keep messing up.” Jinki replied after enter the building. The inside was decorated for Valentine’s Day. Their were heart every where, and candles on every table to make up for the dimmed lighting. A single rose stood high on every table as couple young and old enjoyed their meal together.
“Have you always wanted to coach?” Kibum asked looking at a certain young couple sharing a piece of cake.
“No, I really wanted to be an actor, I still do actually.” Jinki replied as he steered Kibum toward the host desk to get a table. They brushed past many couples that waited, all of them squeezed together like this made Kibum’s stomach flip, he didn’t realize how nervous he was till now. Would Jinki have him kiss on the first date? What if he disappoints Jinki? That and more were swirling through his head as they reached the desk. Standing behind it was a young lady with long blond hair, she wore a black dress accented with a flower pin which stood over her heart, right next to her name tag. Written in beautiful handwriting was the name ‘Jessica’
“An actor? Like in movie and such?” Kibum asked before they stopped right in front of the woman; she gave them both a warm smile.
“Hold that question, okay?” Jinki asked before he turned to the girl, “Reservations for two, outside seating, I believe it’s under Lee Jinki.” He said to her, exaggerating the words ‘outdoor’ and ‘seating’.
“Let me check.” Jessica replied in a sweet tone as she looked through the list of reservations that she held in her hand. She flipped through three pages before finally coming to a stop, “Here we are outdoor seating for two, seven-thirty. May I see you I.D. to confirm?” Jinki nodded and let go of Kibum’s hand, which left Kibum somewhat disappointed. The taller reached into his back pocket and pulled out his black- leather wallet. As the other fished through his wallet, Kibum thought out what Jinki had said to the hostess. ‘Outdoor seating’ kept ringing in his head, but he didn’t remembering seeing any tables outside, then again he wasn’t really looking for tables.
“Here you go.” Jinki stated as he handed over his I.D.
“Why do you need to check I.D.?” Kibum asked curiously, as Jessica scanned over the I.D. quickly before handing it back to Jinki.
“Just precaution,” Jessica replied before highlighting something in pink marker; she turned her attention to a chart that rest upon her desk. “Your table should be ready shortly.”
“Thank you.” Jinki said with a warm smile before he put his I.D. in his wallet and returned the black piece of leather to his back pocket. “Come on, let’s go sit.” He suggested before intertwining their fingers and pulling the other to an area full of benches. The benches were elegant, they were a made out of twisted metal, and had a red heart-shaped cushion upon them. The seats were pushed really close together, so close that when the pair sat down their thighs brushed each other.
“ I want to be in musicals.” Jinki said as they adjusted themselves in their chairs. The statement was so sudden that it threw Kibum off. He must have been giving the other a confused look because Jinki began to chuckle, making his leg lightly brush Kibum’s. Kibum’s face turned a shade of pink, ‘Why can’t a stop blushing?’ he asked himself before Jinki began to speak, “Earlier you asked me if I wanted to be in movies. The answer is no, I want to be in plays, more so musicals.”
“Why musicals?” Kibum asked as he watched Jinki’s lips curl into a soft smile. Just that smile action made his heart melt; Kibum had no idea how this man could have such an affect on him, but he wish he did.
“I just love the feeling of being up on stage and singing. I used to sing all the time when I was younger, my mother couldn’t get me to stop.” He paused, “Now, if I sing my roommate starts to get annoyed.”
“Why do you coach when you love singing so much?” Kibum asked looking down at their still connected hands.
“I have no money, and I acting isn’t really a stable job. I needed money now; and I have a degree in physical education thanks to my father, so I just deiced to coach just until I saved up some money to try to start my career.” Jinki replied as he looked into Kibum’s eyes, “And besides if I hadn’t started to coach I wouldn’t be here with you.”
Kibum began blushing madly. ‘Why didn’t I find him earlier?’ Kibum asked himself as he tried to hid his warm cheeks. The simple action made the other burst out laughing. “What so funny?”
“You’re just so cute.” The other replied before a man in a dark suit came up to them.
“You’re chariot awaits.” He said in his deep tenor voice.
“Chariot?” Kibum asked raising an eyebrow as Jinki got up and pulled him to his feet.
“You’ll see.” Jinki replied as they followed the man to the exist. Kibum couldn’t help but stare at the back of the man’s head, were a low pony-tail of long blond hair stood. The man swayed back and forth as he walked, the shorter couldn’t help but let out a small giggle at his manly appearance. Once they reached, the door the man held it open, letting a blast of cold air run through the thin material of Kibum’s shirt.
The shorter physically shivered earning a small chuckle from the other. “Are you cold?’ Jinki asked, receiving a small nodded of the head from Kibum. “Here.” The taller stated, removing his coat and draping it over the other’s shoulder as they moved down the sidewalk after the man.
“Thank you.” Kibum replied holding the coat to his body. He looked up at Jinki and smiled at him before looking forward to see a horse-drawn carriage. The carriage was decorated in real red roses and pink fabric that draped down in an elegant swoop. The horses where white, they had the pink fabric tied in their harnesses. “Are we going in that?”
“Yes.” Jinki replied as Kibum watched the blond-haired man go to the front of the carriage and began to pet the horses before sitting down in the coachman’s seat.
“Why did you bring me here, if we’re just going to leave?” Kibum asked as Jinki brought him closer to the carriage.
“This was the only place I knew that did carriage rides.” Jinki replied with a soft smile, “And this is the only pick up site. Come on lets get in.” He stated as he helped the other up into the beautiful carriage, which swayed a little bit at the added weight. Jinki followed in after him, “You can go.” Jinki yelled to the coachman after getting settled. The man nodded and pulled on the reigns, and the horses began to move, they’re feet making ‘clip-clop’ noises as they moved.
“This is nice.” Kibum said as he pulled Jinki’s jacket closer to his body. The smell of the roses consumed him as he in haled, all so the smell of vanilla. ‘Strange, where is the vanilla coming from?” he asked himself as he brought Jinki’s Jacket up to warm up his face. They vanilla scent got stronger the closer the jacket came to his face. The shorter smiled, he had forgotten how good other men smelled, but Jinki smelled even better. The sound of a cork popping pulled Kibum out of his thoughts.
“Champaign?” Jinki asked filling a glass with the liquid.
“Yes please.” Kibum replied taking the glass; he waited and watched Jinki pour his own glass before taking a small sip. The cool liquid ran past his lips and down his throat, the temperature of the drink made his spine tingle. He was about to take another sip when his stomach growled loud enough for the other to hear.
“Are you hungry?” Jinki asked looking at Kibum with an amused expression. Kibum was about to shake his head no when his stomach let out another loud growl. Jinki laughed, “Good thing we’re here.” Kibum looked around, they were currently in the middle of a park, and it was dimly lit with streetlights; on a small hill stood a picnic blanket, with flowers on it. The coachman came to a complete stop, the horses making small sounds of protest as he pulling on the reigns.
Jinki hoped down, grabbing a picnic basket before doing so and helped Kibum down. After talking to the driver, Jinki grabbed Kibum’s hand with his only free one and began to pull him towards the blanket. Behind them, you could hear the horses make a small noise before their hoofs made sounds on the pavement as if they were leaving. Turning back, Kibum gasped in shock the cab was leaving them. “He’ll be back shortly.” Jinki stated smoothing out Kibum’s hand, and letting it go. “Let’s eat.” He said sitting down on the blanket; he patted the spot beside him. Blushing, Kibum plopped down.
“What’s in the basket?” Kibum asked before letting Jinki’s jacket fall from his shoulders.
“Home-made pasta, I heard that was one of your favorites,” Jinki said opening the basket and pulling out containers of food. After most the containers and two plates were out, he began to open them. Which eat pop of the lid, Kibum’s nose was filled with the delicious scent of warm food. The growling of his stomach increased the more his inhaled.
“What’s your family like?” Kibum asked as he watched the other dish out food.
“My family, it’s basically just me; I don’t see my mother or father really all that much. I didn’t go into the family business.” Jinki replied placing a plate in front of Kibum, after doing so, he handed him a fork.
“I’m guessing your parents don’t approve of your dreams of being an actor.” Kibum said before taking a bite of pasta. The food just melted in his mouth in a mixture of cheese and sauce. “This is really good.”
“Thanks.” Jinki said before taking a bite, shortly after swallowing his first bit he began to speak again. “No, they’ve always wanted me to get into the business world, the only other thing they allowed me to minor in physical education, hence my job at the school.” Kibum nodded and began to eat more, his stomach demanding it. During the meal, they shared jokes and learned even more about each other. Kibum couldn’t help but fall for this man, this wonderful man who dreams of theater, but is stuck teaching children. His laugh was like pure gold and it rang through the air so many times that night. That night was definitely the best night of Kibum’s life, and he hopes to have many more with his man.
