This is very nice, and I agree that Akira is one of the best characters ever and that's reason enough to get Yamapi in the list. But, I have to say, they're several dramas he has work in that deserve a mention here too. IWGP is a fantastic drama were he was just 15 years old and manage to keep up with actors like Kubozuka Yosuke and Nagase Tomoya. He worked again with Yosuke in Long Love Letter and I'd say his character was one of the highlights, even if it didn't demanded very much acting skills on his part. I haven't watch Code Blue just yet, so I don't know about that one, but then we also have Stand Up!! (where he was a little stiff, but still adorably dorky) and Sore wa, totsuzen, Arashi no you ni, were he was pretty much heart-breaking.
I'd say he's not the best actor out there, but he always manage to make me feel for his characters, and I guess that's a great skill for an actor!
I actually haven't exhausted Yamapi's repertoire of dramas yet so thank you for mentioning all of these. :) I've watched his dramas more post-Nobuta rather than pre. I'm definitely going to check these out especially Stand Up! and Sore wa... They sound very intriguing. Speaking of Code Blue, I haven't started on it yet but I'm hearing good things from a few friends. Plus, Yamapi as a doctor is just irresistible. XD
but he always manage to make me feel for his characters That's true. Especially in Proposal Daisakusen. All my talk about Yamapi is even making me consider giving Kurosagi another try. Have you watched it? :o Any thoughts?
I like watching Yamapi-dramas because he always manage to work with other good actors and make a decent story, even if it's not the most amazing ever. Of the ones I mentioned, Long Love Letter is one of my favorites (it helps that I also love Yosuke and I hope he's in your list too, he totally deserves it!), as they are IWGP and Sore wa. Stand Up!! is a lot of fun, specially when thinking that all the actors in it now mainly play cool, attractive characters, and back then all four of them were so incredibly dorky and awkward you have to wonder how they ever got casted as anything else
( ... )
I can't help getting my hopes up.;;; Maybe that's why I was disappointed in Kurosagi. But you've given me enough reason to give it another try so I will. :) Who knows, maybe I'll like it more as things go along? XD
And thanks again for the recommendations. It would be nice to get back to watching more Yamapi. :)
Another vote for Kurosagi! I'm adding it to my watch list again. And, if anything, the music was great even if I only watched two episodes. :P
So I agree it was far from quality, but its just one of those feel good dramas I like to put on if I need something to pick me up (or if I am bored). The story was actually really good and I loved a lot of episodes but as a whole, there were times when it dragged and I found the relationship between the two main characters strained in terms of chemistry. :P Not to say I didn't enoy it because I did. My favorite part was when Ken got sick but waited at the place where Rei was submitting her work for the contest only to miss her because she went to his house. D: That was so heartwrenching.
I still finished that damn drama because I love Tsumabuki Satoshi. But watching the stupid girl was agony. Agony. ;_;
Oh gosh, that part KILLED me too. One of my favorite fluffy parts was when he gave her the second button of his baseball uniform--I thought that was a very sweet idea.
There were definitely parts that dragged a bit, because it did seem unrealistic that he would waste so many "hallelujah chances" and NOT tell her what he felt. But in the end, it all worked out. Besides, I really love it when Yamapi cries. I just want to hug him :).
