Belle's Top 20 Asian Drama Actors; #20 - Koide Keisuke
Disclaimer: In an effort to interest more of my f-list (and people in general) in Asian dramas, I've followed princess_dexter's lead and have decided to post my own list of Top 20 Asian Drama Actors. This list contains my favorite Asian Drama actors but I'll only be posting an actor a day (hopefully I can manage to do that :P). I might like them for their acting, their charisma, or simply their looks. Or for some bizarre reason of my own (which I will tell you about, anyway). Feel free to offer your own comments (in fact, I'm hoping you will) or if you're already an Asian drama fan, tell me who would be on your list instead of those on mine. I'm already warning you guys, I have weird taste so don't be surprised if you don't know who some of them are (or if they're way too young or old). XD
Note to princess_dexter: I'm pirating part of your format because I'm lazy. XD; So this is me asking belated permission to do just that?;;;

Charm Points: Cute boyish smile. Defined jawline. Pretty cheekbones. Evolving (and devolving) hairstyles. The ability to play a very gay platform-wearing, afro-headed timpani player one moment and an assertive young corporate mogul the next. Being inconspicuously good at acting (Thus, people take him for granted. ;_;). Quietly standing in a corner and making an impression. Wearing shorts and looking ridiculously bad in them while still looking cute! Having duo photoshoots (more on this in the picspam XD).
The Magic of Koide Keisuke: Kei-chan is one of those overlooked, underrated Japanese actors that need more love. Seriously. People look at his face and say, "Hm, he looks familiar..." but will only make the connection when they see this:
That's right, Kei-chan plays Masamu, that crazy but well-meaning timpani player in Nodame Cantabile who loves Chiaka-sama to bits. But the truly amazing thing about him is that if he isn't Masamu and plays other roles, you hardly notice it's the same actor. Once more famous for his role as Hyuuga Kosuke in Gokusen 2, Kei-chan has a variety of roles in his roster like serious young businessmen and goody-goody high school students. The boy clearly has talent.
You've Probably Seen Him In: Gokusen 2, Nodame Cantabile. My favorite Kei-chan role is definitely when he does Masamu (whom I often just call Timpani XD) and I'm glad he got commended for the great job he did there. And those platform shoes. I envy his ability to walk in high almost-heels. XD
You Should Check Him Out In: That j-drama ROOKIES, which is like Gokusen only with baseball. The j-drama itself is enjoyable despite how cliched it might seem and you'll be able to see Kei-chan in a different light. But to highlight his versatility, check out Oishii Proposal, a drama which is every bit as cheesy and corny as it sounds but somehow still works. I first picked it up a month after I watched Nodame Cantabile because I thought the premise was cute. Kei-chan plays the main character, a young business mogul who falls in love with an older woman -- a chef in the restaurant he has to close. His quiet tears and cute smile won me over and I finished the drama happily. It was only when I looked up his name that I realized he had also played Masamu!
Why He's On My List: I basically fell in love with him after I discovered he was Masamu. I couldn't get over how he could play a character like Masamu's as well as a serious, angst-ridden young man in love. XD Acting skills FTW. He isn't handsome but there's something mysterious and charming about him that makes me like him.
