so i was going to wait till tomorrow morning to post about Perugia, since ive only been here for five hours.
but oh my god, i couldnt wait to say: PERUGIA, I LOVE YOU!
if Rome was a muggy NYC summer, Perugia is the crisp cold fall of, say, Lake Tahoe or maybe some teeny hilly NE state town ive never imagined going to. it is amazing. the view. the people. and the chocolate. its not even the festival yet, but you can literally smell chocolate in the main Piazza. i keep thinking im gonna find a Wonka bar. i mean, every other store is this gorgeous old dark wood, tall ceilinged CHOCOLATE store. a medieval wonderland. and the view. you're on this steep hill overlooking the Umbria countryside....
so im *almost* in heaven, if only Skip were here...it is very bittersweet to be in some place this beautiful and not share it. i told him that over the phone and i think we are both down in the mouth about it all.
lets see- i had a hot chocolate. its not the same as in the US. it's literally melted chocolate in a cup, with a bowl of sugar next to it. its ridiculously extravagent. i could only finish half of it. and i had it from here:
http://www.caffediperugia.it and i know i mentioned the weather, but you don't understand how much i love crisp cold weather. tights. one of my angora handknit scarfs. my wool parka. other people dressed lke this as well...aaah...so nice.
