nothing to update on
hi-
today was a useless lazy day. i had to get a couple of items (a SIM card for the cell phone and an adapter since i forgot one), so i walked across the bridge and through the Roman Forum ruins an up through Via Cavour to Termini to buy my Perugia ticket and wander around saying vorrei attattadore or vorrei sim card. gypsies kept coming up to me begging constantly...whole families, right in your face. "No" doesnt cut it.
after an hour of that, i walked through the Quirinale and found myself walking right to Trevi fountain, full of tourists and people selling stuff and more gypsies. so many tourists. got the hell out of there and wound my way to the Pantheon. which is incredible. BUT they are renovating, so part of the occulus is covered. sigh. then west through piazza navona, through the ghetto, across the bridge and back to Trastevere and crashed into bed for a siesta.
some things:
° the men are worse, now that im wandering around alone. since Gabs and Brice left, ive been followed, whistled at, and more followed. its hilarious. yet a bit um not. i wish skip was here argh. i thought it was a myth but Andy warned me it wasnt and she is correct.
° everything is closed from like 1-3:30. i thought it wouldnt be as bad in rome as the smaller towns, but the rule holds true. the only thing open really are larger clothing stores, food places, and cafes. so i guess ill eat and shop within those times.
° the gypsies...man, they dont leave you alone.
° i love my neighbors. they bought me a cappucino this morning.
° got the cell phone to work but the power cord doesnt work, so i have to find one. talked with Skip about 2 hours ago and also, the phone has a camera so i can take pics, send to Skip, he can post for me, and i can post for you.
° my italian sucks. but everyone thinks it is cute. they also think im French.
° EVERYONE watched the debate last week between Bush and Kerry. have yet to meet any Italian, or European for that matter, who is even remotely fond of Bush. they all call him "monkey", "embarrassing" or "so stupid". i agree.
tomorrow:
° Capuchin Monestary, with the interior of bones in the AM.
° Borghese Gallery at 3pm.
° 60s Soul night in a bar off of Piazza Navona, with Peter and Emil djing.
