my experiences with mod/soul dance nights in rome were really really good, olivia... plus i heard a lot of stuff i'd imagine you wouldn't in the states (keep in mind i was a 20 year old at the time, though). if i remember correctly, the ones we went to had a million different types of people there. very inclusive, very NOT like the niche-ey-ness of the states... e.g. one night we followed a group of liberty-spikes-sportin' punks to a night of "garage music"-- the only place i've ever seen that kind of underground-culture-crossover in the states was, oddly, in albany...

go do as much of that as possible.

yea, peter is a good dj and luckily we know some of the same people back in SF and in LA. and he has been very helpful wiht his perfect english and helping my italian. whew.

dan, the driving is nuts. im still in shock. i love it. also, santa maria de trastevere is very cool. homeless drunks look the same everywhere, except here, im not kidding you, one was wearing such nice shoes.

well, remember what i said about my surreal run-in with prostitiutes (waay less saucy than it sounds, if anyone else is reading this)... they looked like contestants on "the apprentice".

cars will give you a heart attack. i was only in one like three times. wait'll you get to large intersections with broken traffic lights. the one below my studio was ALWAYS broken.

also, eat blood oranges every day, drink cappuchino (but not too late in the day or they'll think you're bat shit crazy), and go to the famous gelato place near the pantheon (your friends will prob. know of it-- plus you can laugh at american tourists saying "voor-ay chick-a-laddo, por fah-vor-ay"). and roam around (pun unintentional) via del corso-ish area late late night on a weekday. totally beautiful!

Hooray!!! i am so thrilled you are posting your adventures -- it's wonderful and your trip sounds amazing. And how lovely that Gabs and Brice showed up... perfect. Now I want pizza and lots of cheese and wine for breakfast.

Missing you something awful but ecstatic for you and your adventure of a lifetime... More posts and pics, please!

thanks so much for sharing your good times! italy is so fabulous and you are going at the best time of year. a nice chill is in the air, there aren't as many tourists, and if i recall correctly the foliage might even be changing in that part of the world, too...

enjoy yourself!!!
