I remember owning Thriller on Vinyl. Very vividly. Its probably still sitting in back of my mother's television still. I'm tempted to call her and ask if I can have it.
It had been a typical day for me. I was getting ready for work... soon to be walking out the door. I had run upstairs to grab my phone and saw I had a text from my mom and a missed call from my sister. The text read; "Michael Jackson died?" Of course, I immediately called my sister, assuming the call and the text were somehow related.
Pookie - my sister (no that isnt her real name), told me the woman she babysits for works at UCLA medical center and that she had seen Michael Jackson on the table. This was before it was confirmed. I am so sad.
Michael Jackson was such a large part of my childhood. He is the cornerstone of modern music. Hell, he's a cornerstone in the world of dance. Some of my first memories are of me trying to do the Thriller dance in our tiny living room. I remember when his music Videos were such a huge deal, they would be premiered during prime time on major channels.
I know his reputation has been tarnished pretty severely... Still, no one can deny his contributions to the entertainment industry.
It still doesnt feel real.
