First real day of school!

Ohhh… back in the swing of things.  I can’t BELIEVE I didn’t bring my book today.  I figured I’d be busy doing something… but I’m not.  It’s nice… it’s too hot to be giving my self introduction anyways.  I’m lucky though, they just turned on the AC.  It’s like a little present from God.

I came in before 8 today as they asked me to do a little speech at the assembly before school.  So I went up there and told them all how excited I am to be here and how much fun we’ll have in English class.  All lies.

Just kidding.  Since then I’ve been putting the finishing touches on my self introduction and so on.  The time is 9:36am, and I have nothing more to do today.  Crazy, but true.  Today is Pappy’s day off.  If we were still in Kotohira, I’d be cutting out of school like yesterday, but I can’t really do that here, because they don’t know what a bad person I am yet and I don’t want to shock them.

SO, this weekend was good.  It seemed really long… which is weird. On Saturday I met Betty for lunch and hung around, bought a terrible CD which I don’t want, so on.  Cleaned the house up… then went upstairs to my neighbor Evan’s place for his birthday gathering.  I would say party, but it wasn’t like a party, it was like a dinner party.  All the food was so GOOD.  Evan made lasagna, and Lily made this fig and proschutto salad.  I can’t find the proper spelling for prochutto.  The next thing in line on the spell checker is prostitute.  I didn’t bring any food and I felt bad about that… what a loser.  I did, however, bring Evan a little plant growing out of a spaceship turd.  Again, turd is NOT in the Microsoft Word dictionary.  HATE that.  Ooh, there was cheese too.  The cheese was GREAT.  They all left for karaoke about 10:30 and I dragged Takeshi back to our apartment because I was SO TIRED.  Went right to sleep and slept all through the next morning too.  It was great.

I smell BO and I can’t tell if it’s me or the man next to me.  That’s sad.

On Sunday morning I stuck around the house and did laundry… then I went out to the port to meet Betty again.  Upsetting news.  Apparently a former teacher for NOVA (a major private English teaching company in Japan) committed suicide last Saturday in Takamatsu.  Really shocking… I didn’t know the person at all… maybe had met them once, I’m not sure.  But it’s sad because us English teachers are all a little community here.  I wonder what could have happened…

So then I went to the store and got some veggies and I made a little eggplant pasta for Pappy and I.  We had a lovely little dinner, but by 10 o’clock I was all sleepy again and had to cut things short.  I didn’t even finish my food!  I must still be experiencing some JET lag.  It’ll be interesting to see how I get through the day today without a book or anything.  I’ll probably get very VERY sleepy after lunch.  You’ll be hearing about it.

Uhhh… it’s getting cold in here now.  Hahah.  I’m hungry.

Oh yes, today is my first school lunch in a LONG LONG time.  It’s been almost 3 months!  I was thinking about staying off it again, but trying to make a bento every single night is something that I just cannot commit to, you know?  It takes SO LONG… it had to stop there.  No more Atkins for me.  I do, however, have to be losing some weight here VERY SOON or I will be in trouble.  I can’t fit into my clothes anymore… seriously.  All my work shirts are ridiculous.  Like a sausage, I mean.  I’m gonna have to watch out or I’ll be in a jam by winter.  I gained about 12 or 13 pounds in America.  In three weeks.  This can’t do a body good.

All this talk and I just want more food.  Ahhhhhhhhhhhh~

By the way, today’s lunch is dry curry on rice, consommé soup, and a frozen tangerine.  Tomorrow, HOT DOG!!!  Finally something to look forward to!

I don’t think there are any classes this afternoon.  I’d really like to go home early.  I will have to wait.  Won’t I…

Well I got some jobs to do sorta.  I had lunch, first of all, and that was par for the course.  If you can say that.  Your average dry curry.  Bleh.  I hate curry.  The milk was different too.  Different bottle and a different cap.  Anyways, but I have to help a girl with her speech this afternoon.  I also had to work on an activity for my introduction.  Rediculous.  I don’t know.  I really don’t like this job.  I don’t like coming up with fun games for kids. Now these same kids are all around the office cleaning up the place.  This one girl has been sweeping the same place for a REALLY long time.  Takes a lot of balls to sweep that well.  Haha.

Speech practice starts in 30 minutes.  This will be fun...
