One thing that sometimes strikes me when rewatching Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the extent to which Buffy and Willow act cutesy. They present a femininity that seems designed to appear non-threatening - striking in two girls/women who are, in fact, major threats to those around them (although it takes Willow a few seasons to reach there). I'm not sure what to make of this - perhaps it is representative of the pressure on young women and teenage girls to be cute? Buffy of course is very focused on being a normal girl, which would explain a feminine demeanor. And Willow, at least in the beginning, presents as a total pushover.
