I fucking hate taxes. No, I don't mind giving up the money, I just really, really, really fucking hate all the bureaucracy and math involved. First of all, I had no clue about what I had to do in order to "file my tax return". I didn't even fucking know what that expression meant. Where am I "filing"? Who returns what? So I go over to irs.org, and

you could have gotten the forms and all that stuff from your local public library :) public librarians are probably very good at answering all sorts of tax questions since that is something they get asked ALL the time.
the only money you really have to claim on your taxes is the money that you made and got a pay check for. so since you were receiving a check from your current job and paying federal taxes at some point in 2003 that is what is included when you file. i get money from my parents from time to time to cover expenses and none of that counts as income...it's just a nice family hehe.
as far as the tuition stuff goes, i don't really know. simmons pays like 98% of my tuition through a grant and i did not have to claim that money nor the actual money i have to pay them each semester. my dad asked his lawyer/accountant person about that and he said i didn't need to put it down.
it is possible that you are exempt from filing. HOWEVER, this is probably because the government owes YOU money. because i didn't make all that much in 2003, i am getting all of the federal and all of the state taxes that i paid back from the government. they may owe you money too but it depends on the amount you actually made. you probably should at least get some of it back, so it might be worth it to file. they always say you don't have to file if you're below a certain income, but that's cause you don't owe them. they fail to mention that they probably owe you insetad :)
it's actually pretty easy if you're using the EZ or 1040A forms but my dad always helps me with it heh.
that's the best i can do!
