2nd Sphere - Keeping Sane

[Thrust into a new situation, Yuna is doing her best to keep a handle on things. She's decided to devote the afternoon to practicing her Blitz techniques in the swimming pool in front of her and Jecht's house. Passerbys will see her either timing herself and trying for longer breath-hold times, kicking balls from the pool at a target tacked to a ( Read more... )

**F.F. recognizes this girl. She arrived at the baseball field yesterday.**

You are from yesterday. Is this practice for Blitzball?

[Yuna kicks the ball from the pool to hit the target. She glances up and wades over the rim of the pool, leaning over the edge]

Well, I was doing a little practice on my own. Sir Jecht is the one who runs the practices for the teams he's set up at the highschool.

[She holds up another ball floating in the pool and tosses it over]

This is a blitzball.

[It's a standard ball, blue and white, bumpy and ridged and an odd weight to it]

**F.F. gets a fell for the ball, exploring it's shape, and weight.**

This ball is very different from a baseball. Baseball is the only sport I have played so far.

How do you play this sport? **If Yuna doesn't mind, F.F. will totally ignore taking the clothes and start to enter the pool.**

[Yuna doesn't seem to mind, blitz uniforms are made for aquadynamics but it's not unheard of for the people of Spira to play in normal clothes either.]

Like I said, it's played underwater, so you need to learn to hold your breath for a long time. I can hold it for 5 minutes at a time right now. Most players can handle 10. We only have a small pool here so I was practicing that and goal kicks. You keep the ball in your hands as you swim but can use it to attack other players. Other players will try to block and grapple with you too.

Oh boy... F.F. will... frighten you... human_pretender October 3 2010, 00:50:19 UTC
I see. This sounds like American football under water. I would like to try this!

So, the limit is ten minutes? I think I will be good at this sport! **F.F. takes the ball underwater and, goes under, to the bottom of the pool. She waves.**

[Yuna smiles and waves back. She waits for F.F. to resurface before explaining the game is played in two 10 minute halves, with a break at the five minute marks. She will also explain that Jecht is planning to do an exhibition game soon.]

**F.F. actually takes a LOOONG time before coming back to the surface. And she only surfaces because she realizes that Yuna may be waiting for her. And there's no real reason to stay under for that long.**

How long was that?

[Yuna grins]

Twelve minutes! You're a natural!

A natural? Then plankton are natural blitzball players?

[Yuna tilts her head while considering the question]

I'm sorry, I don't understand.

This body may be human, but I am plankton on the inside. I am plankton, and this is my shell. **She says so, lifting her arms as if she were showing herself off.

[Yuna tilts her head the other way, pondering it]

I guess that's okay. I don't think there's a rule against it.

That is good to hear.

You mentioned tryouts for the team. When is that?

I don't know about tryouts but there will be an exhibition game soon. Sir Jecht will be announcing it sometime soon I think.

I see. I should learn to play this sport so I can impress the coach.

Sure. I'll see what I can do to teach you. I'm still a beginner myself.
