That's right! As a member of the planning committee for UC Berkeley's upcoming
Dance Marathon, I'm formally extending an invitation to you all~
Here's the dealio, yo.
This year's theme is "World Premiere," basically meaning HOLLYWOOD and the good ol' movies!
That being said, have you got an awesome movie costume laying around, looking for some lovin'? Then never fear, have I got the opportunity for you!
We're looking to have costumers come to the event. You know, photo-ops, hang out times, and guess what? You're helping raise awareness for Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, which is just awesome.
The event is April 4-5, 2008 from 8 pm to 8 am. Don't worry; if dancing the night away, winning prizes, and jamming to tunes isn't your thing, you can leave once you're done costuming.
Granted, this event takes place on the Berkeley campus and I know that for many of you, it's not exactly the closest place. HOWEVER, if you are interested, we can work out details for your stay - myself and other committee members have room for people to stay, plus, you can spend the weekend in Berkeley! WOOHOO! I'll give you tasty food from my sorority, take you to awesome (and cheap!) boba shops, stroll down Telegraph Avenue, and just have an amazing time! Your entrance fee for the event is also waived. In return, all we ask is that you smile, pose for pics, and maybe bust-a-move or two?
What types of costumes are we looking for?
While we're open to anyone willing to make the trip out to support our event, we'd like costumes that are more mainstream, rather than not. That means costumes from series such as Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars, Narnia, Disney films, or any other movie or celebrity or famous iconic figure.
So, if I come, what do I do?
What you mostly likely would end up doing is one of two things: greeting students as they come in on our fabulous red carpet, or posing inside for pictures. If we get enough people from a particular series, our decorations committee would love to incorporate that movie specifically into our decorations; as in, recreating a movie backdrop for pictures, etc. Plus, we've got an awesome DJ lined up (and hopefully a live band, too!), amongst other activities, such as games, video games, movies, and speakers. AND FREE FOOD. You know you want to show off your stellar dance moves too!
For so generously donating your time, you not only get your entrance fee waived, but you also get to walk away with some free goodies, such as a super stylish Dance Marathon t-shirt and whatever other awesome things we get our hands on. Plus, hundreds of Berkeley students will think that you're totally awesome since you're dressed as *fill in blank* from their favorite movie *fill in blank* and you totally get to make their night by letting them take a picture with you.
Okay, I'm interested in learning more! What happens now?
AWESOME. If you are interested in learning more, please comment here with your email so I can forward you more information and details that will hopefully help you decide to join us!
As I've mentioned before, Dance Marathon is a growing tradition and an amazing night. I hope that some of you will be able to make it out! Oh, and we're still looking to see if any photographers would be interested coming up as well to help document the event. :) Same applies to them; please comment!
So please consider coming, or at least inquiring about more! Pass the info on to friends and make it a fun trip that you'll sure remember for a life-time! Please join us in our fight to continue funding AIDS research. <3 Thanks everyone!
