Today, 9/11/07, Americans all across the country (and especially those fighting overseas) remember the terror that struck our great nation six years ago. This morning, as I was driving to school, I heard a voice come over the radio station asking a simple question - "Where were you when it happened?" I remembered the exact moment, washing my hair in the shower, when my mother came in and said "an airplane just hit the World Trade Center." I thought back to a day filled with fear and sadness - a day spent in front of a TV at school, watching people jump out of windows, watching rescue workers race around to get to the injured, watching the towers collapse. I remembered a moment of silence taken around the football field, while I prayed for the families of the dead and missing. I remembered a friend, crying, hoping she'd hear from her dad, who was in the area and supposed to be at the WTC. As I drove, I mourned. I mourned for the families who lost a loved one, six years ago today. I mourned for the families who, have since, lost a loved one in the war we are in. I mourned for the families who are struggling to get by while their loved one is overseas, fighting for our freedom - fighting so that we can feel safe here - so that we can sleep well at night.
Today is a day for reflection and for change. So, stop and think about where you were six years ago. "Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September morn?" Say a prayer for those families who are grieving today. Thank a soldier for your freedom. Hug your parents. Call someone you haven't talked to in a while. Stop and smell the roses. Tell someone you love them. Enjoy life while you can because life is short and unpredictable.
