On a day like this, Hoshi would love to be out there fighting off the latest invaders on the island. However, this weekend, she had received instructions to take a qualifying math exam for one of the colleges she'd applied to, and the exam covered some of her weak areas. So Hoshi had left the fighting to her roommate while she did some last-minute cramming on statistics.
Still, there was the occasional gremlin that managed to get into the room. "Oh please," she groaned, grabbing a heavy book and taking a swipe at the intruder. "I don't have time for this! I still can't figure out how to do binomial and multinomial probability functions."
Yeah, that certainly got the gremlin's attention. It stood there and gave her a confused look.
"I mean, I think I understand the difference between discrete and continuous random variables, but I still don't understand how you solve for the number of trials given the probability and mean," Hoshi ranted on, utterly frustrated. "There's not enough information in the problem to solve it without a setting up a table and graph, but the graph has to use the probability as a variable. That doesn't work when the probability is constant!" She went on to list all the parts of the equation that she'd managed to identify so far.
The gremlin tried to understand what Hoshi was going on and on about, but it didn't understand statistics either. Finally, its head exploded from the information overload.
"And then you have to go make a huge mess on top of all that," grumbled Hoshi, getting up to grab some paper towels.
