Despite a couple of social events going on this weekend,
silenttex, who shares my rather reclusive tendencies, and I elected to stay home and see nobody. And a fine time we had too.
Nothing particularly special happened this weekend, just me and m'fella hanging out doing weekendy type things but my abiding memory of the past few days is of smiling a lot. The woman in the sweet shop probably thought I was on drugs so broad was my grin. No drugs required. Just ridiculously happy.
Friday night brought with it its usual complement of QI to be watched and a fine evening was spent with our feet up watching the telly.
Saturday (when we finally surfaced at about 1pm) was ridiculously warm and sunny for a December day so
silenttex suggested going out for the afternoon. Unfortunately by the time we'd eaten breakfast and come up with a plan of where to go (involving much searching on the internet for places without people) it was getting on for three so we postponed our trip for another time (
silenttex has found a doozy of a place to go to: a deserted chapel out in the middle of nothing at all, and I found a Roman villa so we've a shortlist of places to see next time we get the urge to go out to where people aren't).
We did go out and take the air though, with a walk down to the aforementioned sweet shop. And then we drove out to get cat food and stopped in at PC World for Doom 3 for
silenttex and a Christmas present for me (I now have to wait til Christmas before I can play with it, it's so unfair!).
The evening involved roast lamb for dinner (thanks to
trampledamage's excellent advice, my Yorkies came out perfectly (*beam*) and laughing til we cried at Ed Byrne and Phill Jupitus.
Sunday was mostly Doom for
silenttex and curling up with Dennis Lehane books for me. And cottage pie for dinner.
As I say, nothing special, but a perfect weekend. Time spent happily doing nothing much the man I love definitely ranks up there on my list of favourite ways to spend my time. If only it could have lasted forever, but sadly real life intruded and now it's Monday morning and I'm back at work, but I'm still smiling.
I look at the side of your face as the sunlight comes
Streaming through the window in the autumn sunshine
And all the time going to Coney Island, I'm thinking,
Wouldn't it be great if it was like this all the time?
