Saturday - Lovely afternoon out at Richborough Fort with
silenttex. Had a fab time wandering the ruins trying to understand the directions from the audio guidebook - it did get a bit Choose Your Own Adventure at times: you are standing in front of a ditch, ahead of you you can see steps leading down and to your left is an information panel... On the way home I was rather disconcerted to see signs saying, in four languages, 'Drive on left'.
mundenlogic's birthday party in the evening, a lovely time with fine people but I fade early these days so
silenttex and I sloped off at about 11.
Sunday - Blissful nothingness. Highlights of my day were a long bath, reading Decider by Dick Francis and watching Top Gear, which was apparently the last in the series. Cue confused looks from
silenttex and me. It seems like there's only been about 4 episodes so far. How can it be over already? We were enjoying that. :-(
Monday - Cocktails and gossip with
rosamicula. Top fun, especially as the bar man in the Ruby Lounge (who was new) made up for being very slow at mixing cocktails by failing to ring up a set of drinks on our tab. And the sushi place down the road from the bar does the most amazing grilled salmon! Oh, and the company wasn't bad either! *grin*
Tuesday - Can't believe it's August already. Where does the time go? QNI with
silenttex. Finest kind.
Wednesday -
silenttex and I met up with
flickgc,
drplotka and
dougs for gourmet burgers: nice, but nothing special, and Bill Bailey: very funny, especially the pisstake of The Da Vinci Code at the end and his music of evil routine, which keeps getting funnier. If you're planning to see Bill at the Edinburgh Fringe this year (for which this was a practice run) you're in for a treat.
Thursday - Very, very tired. We weren't that late getting back from Bill Bailey, but I could barely function all day and went to bed at 9.30!! In lieu of having done anything exciting, have some
cool news.
Friday - Out on the town with
meico and
ayia and some friends of theirs who I don't think have LJs. Great time had, always good to see
meico again. Was a bit concerned beforehand as a friend of his was coming who he described as being a lot like me - always a worry that a) they'll be nothing like me and I'll wonder how people see me or b) I'll not get on with them at all and wonder how people see me. As it was she, Nikki (I think), was lovely and, yes, in certain ways, very like me!
Quotation
There's not enough hours in the day, To say all that I want to say. There's not enough days in the week, And weeks go by quicker than drunks knock back liquor. - Neil Hannon, 'Timestretched'
Word
imbroglio n - 1. A confused heap. 2. A state of great confusion and entanglement; a complicated or difficult situation (esp. political or dramatic); a confused misunderstanding or disagreement, embroilment.
I looked it up in the dictionary because I'm never entirely sure if you pronounce the g (you don't).
Death
It would appeat that no-one I've heard of has died this week. Go Team Reclining Bunny!
