1. Which book are you currently reading?
After a lifetime of not understanding people who could read more than one book at once I've recently turned into just such a person. I can only read one fiction title at once, but I have a non-fiction book at work for reading at lunchtime and another by my bed for dipping into when I'm waiting for
silenttex. My current three are:
Fiction: Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco
At work: London - A Biography by Peter Ackroyd
Bedroom: The Chocolate Connoisseur by Chloe Doutre-Roussel
2. What book did you read last?
Break No Bones by Kathy Reichs
3.What book are you planning on reading next?
The Fourth Bear by Jasper Fforde probably.
4. Do you own most of the books you read, or do you borrow them from a library?
Own. I like to be able to re-read books a lot so borrowing isn't for me.
5. Who was your favourite author when you were a child?
I can't think of anyone in particular - J. T. Edson certainly featured.
6. What were some of your favourite books when you were a child?
J. T. Edson's Westerns, the Sweet Dreams and Sweet Valley High books and the collections of short stories publshed under the Alfred Hitchcock title (Alfred Hitchcock's Things That Go Bump In The Night is the only one I can think of but there was a series of them)
.
7. Which male literary character would you like to take out on a date and why?
Lord Peter Whimsey. Because, well who wouldn't, smart, rich, funny, very good in bed and with a gorgeous car. Or Louis from John Connolly's Charlie Parker books (except for the fact he's gay). Or, while we're on the subject of cold blooded killers, Pine from Darkness Take My Hand or Win from Harlan Coben's Myron Bolitar books. *drifts off to happy place*
8. Which author would you most like to have a `one-to-one' with?
Gosh, I've never really thought about it, Stephen Fry would be an entertaining conversationalist I'm sure and John Connolly would be nice to take to dinner because he's sexy and funny.
9. Which fictional character would you most like to have a 'one-to-one' with?
Temperance Brennan (Kathy Reich's main character) or Alex Cooper (Linda Fairstein's) who could entertain me with grisly murder stories.
10. Which literary character would you least like to be stranded on a desert island with and why?
Bridget Jones.
11. Which character would you most like to be stranded with?
Windsor Horne Lockwood III, chances are he'd own the island.
12. In which literary/fictional location would you most like to live?
The 1920s and 30s of Dorothy L Sayers's novels.
13. Which is the best TV/film adaptation of a book you have seen? why?
The Shawshank Redemption - it's a brilliant film and reading the story always makes be want to watch the film and watching the film always makes me want to read the story.
14. Which is worst TV/film adaption of a book you have seen? why?
The Shining - Jack Nicholson is utterly, utterly wrong for the character as it exists in the book.
15. What film adaption do you actually like more than the book?
I'm sure there are some, but none come to mind.
16. What book do you like better than the film adaption?
Pretty much all of them.
17. What are your top 5 favourite books?
I couldn't possibly pick just 5, but of the books I love, five of them are: Murder Must Advertise by Dorothy L. Sayers, Darkness, Take My Hand by Dennis Lehane, Tales of the City by Armistead Maupin, Moab Is My Washpot by Stephen Fry and The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon by Stephen King.
18. Who is your favourite author?
I couldn't possibly pick just one, but I never go a year without re-reading about five Dick Francis books and he hasn't had a mention yet, so Dick Francis.
19. What is your least favourite book and why?
There are very few books that I haven't enjoyed reading, but I couldn't even finish Interview With A Vampire it was so dull.
20. If your life was a book, which author would you choose to write it?
Stephen Fry, he'd make me sound much more erudite and interesting than I am.
