My sister Jenn's in town, which is always nice. We went present shopping today, which was, you know, harrowing. I'm tentatively hopeful about Christmas this year; after two very hostile years, Jenn and Mother had a reasonably civil phone conversation last week, and they're both coming to my aunt's for Christmas Eve dinner. I think they're trying to be nicer since the whole Alfredo in Iraq thing, and he's been pretty anxious about their mutual animosity. Plus my grandmother hasn't been doing well, and she's made it pretty clear that she'd like everybody to chill the fuck out. But yeah, it would be nice if things weren't so tense this year.
In other news, money's pretty tight here just like with everyone else. I was planning at working at HT over the holidays to cover expenses, but they're laying people off too, so no go there. A few days ago I found out that, because of all the bailouts they're doing, the Feds have cut a huge chunk of their college grants, and $6,000 of mine were among those canceled. UNC very nicely applied for stafford loans on my behalf, so I still have enough money to go to school and everything, but still, that's a lot on top of all my other loans, so I'll be hurting come graduation.
BUT! Excepting my international treaties class, which was heinous, and Japanese, which was also the death, I got excellent grades this semester, so there's still that to be really happy about. ^_^v
