so in my infinite rage that just wouldn't quit yesterday, i finally decided that the only thing that was going to make me any less enraged was sewing the skirt i've been thinking of. so before dinner i cut it out (i had to use two different fabrics cause i didn't have enough of the first) and after dinner i explored rust dyeing.
wow it was a weird process. i had to pull a bunch of garden tools because there was nothing smaller than that. nb: don't run your hands down the blade of a rusty saw. i dipped my fabric in water and then again in vinegar and then wrapped it around a rusty object. every pattern piece is going to come out different, and i may have to do it several times to get enough dye on it. haha also i'm supposed to leave it in the sun, and it was evening on a cloudy day. :P i'm not sure i'm gonna like it, and i still have my doubts about if it's gonna work at all.
how many objects can you recognize wrapped in vinegar-soaked linen?
today i'm going to take it all apart and wash it, then probably redye it. today is my day of dyeing apparently; i'm dyeing a lot of peach linen for my mom.
also, i smelled disgusting. i washed my entire arms, and i still couldn't get the vinegar smell out. of course, that may be because i splashed vinegar all down my front several times. even after i took a shower i smelled like vinegar. @_@
the finished skirt is going to be a mid-calf length, tan 12 paneled circle skirt out of both antique linen (ooooh another bedsheet) and some sort of laundered cotton canvas. i'm going to put something down the seams, though i haven't decided what i'm going to use or how i'm going to apply it. i'm toying with the idea of putting something on the sides to be able to tuck it up, but i'm not really sure yet. i want to make it a little more busy than i normally would, but since it's not something i normally go with, i don't really know what to do.
i think this also means that it's time for me to start working on my wings again. if i'm going to have my skirt i want my matching wings to go with them. :P
because i'm vain like that, and because i liked how it turned out, and because i like how my bad picture quality makes bits of my hair look almost lavender, i'm including some random pictures i just found in my phone from some previous day this week.
today was a pleasantly surprising day. i went shopping several times today, with the expectation that i would have some rather unpleasant errands to take care of this afternoon. as it happened, however, my third attempt at making this stupid fencing collage worked this time around (well enough). it also delightfully ended up costing less than half of what i was expecting. my next step is to frame it! my mom insists that i can buy stuff at joann's to do it myself, but someone else will be doing for me, because i truly can ruin any picture by attempting to frame it.
in a very NOT pleasant twist, my mom finished the wedding dress and i had the sheer blind luck to decide to put it on prunella until it was time to mail it. it was rather a shock when we discovered that it was too small for prunella - who was set up for my measurements (and i'm significantly smaller than the other girl). then we tried it on me, and while it was better, it was still about two inches too small on me. well. i blame myself, and my mom blames herself, but the general consensus is that it needs to be taken apart and remade. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. this is my frustration, which is nothing to my mom's.
okay! onward to fabric dyeing part deux!
