a break from my mom's corset to revist fond memories

remember that skirt and top i was making a while ago and sort of a little bit set a bunch of stuff on fire? well i finished it at the beginning of the month and wore it to anime la. when i wore it i had a coin belt on that one of chaz's minions very nicely loaned to me, and i had my hair and makeup done all cool. i wore it with my docs (the boots with the straps and buckles), and had a lovely black parasol. i know there are pictures of me, but i've yet to receive/find them (i'm still hoping they turn up). as a poor substitute, i took pictures on prunella.

the top is dyed black denim (the dye didn't work very well, it looks purple most of the time - yes i know rit dye is cheap shit). at the last minute i decided it needed to look a little more like a belly dance outfit, so i spent the day before cutting and attaching silver chains to it (with two bronze chains i really liked). that's also where the idea for the coin belt came in, and the general consensus is that the coin belt really makes the outfit. i want to get more chains and redo the layout. i want more attached to the middle of the top instead of just the one, and i'd like to put some on my arms as well.

the skirt is two layers of lightweight muslin that i dyed lavender (top) and then grey (both) (again - rit dye is lame and i didn't really get grey). above that is a long piece of heavier muslin to which i safety pinned scraps of fabric i found all over my room. the front of the skirt falls just below my knee, and slits all the way up to my left hip. i want to make something to go under it, like really short bloomers, but i'm not particularly inspired at this point.

costuming, dance, general awesomeness, dieselpunk, dyeing fabric
