This is not fic, this is me at 2am trying to write my default icon meme drabble for donutsweeper and totally failing. It might possibly rank as shmaltz but anyhoo I wrote it and it feels real to me right now so

To my children,

I am proud of you:
Every time you accept someone for who they are and not who they appear to be.
Every time you voice doubt and uncertainty over accepted 'fact'.
Every time you ask a question that makes me stop and think and challenge my own views.
Every time you say “But that's not fair!” and you are not talking about yourselves.

I will continue to love you, unconditionally, even if:
You come home with green and purple hair - though I reserve the right to mock the heck out of you if you do.
Your favourite jeans become no more than a series of holes tied together with string - lets face it, for one of you, that's not far off now.
You are gay/straight/bi-/poly or undecided - as long as you do not expect me to do your significant others' laundry as well as your own when they come to visit.
You take up religion in a big way and denounce me for my views - but I think I'm fairly safe with this one.

BUT

Though I will roll out of bed in the middle of the night and get you from that party that you weren't supposed to be at - no questions asked - do NOT believe, for one instant, that this means you shall go unpunished. Even if you *are* taller than me.

And though I will accept your choice of partner(s) - if I think they are treating you badly I fully reserve my right to call them on it because I am your mother and - no matter how old you get - you will always be my child.
