wow! i haven't written in here in a long time- i just read a lot of my old entries and they made me laugh. i should be going to the gym right now but i'm "waiting for my dinner to digest" first. that's my story, and i'm stickin to it. only 9 more days of miller!! I CAN'T WAIT TO BE DONE WITH THIS JOB. i can't wait to never work there again. i'm glad i did, because it really made me realize i won't ever be able to work with preschoolers, EVER. and i don't even know if i want to do anything with kids. working this summer really pointed out something to me that i've always known but pretended wasn't harmful to my career with children: i am so incredibly impatient. i have no patience whatsoever, seriously. this is clearly a problem when working with kids, so i don't know if i'm going to be able to do that as a career ever. this summer has also made me realize that i have no fucking clue what i want to be when i grow up. buuuut, i have some promising ideas for my future which will allow me to avoid entering the real world for at least 1.5 more years. first idea: go to korea or japan and do an english-teaching program like owen is doing. this seems like a very appealing idea to me right now, primarily korea. owen is there and is enjoying it, i have looked at tons of programs, but his seems really put-together. also- the cost of living in korea is 50% that of the us, and the program pays for your flights and stuff. the pay is pretty good, and you can save a lot because of the low cost of living and not having to pay rent. this type of thing would also look very good on my resume should i actually end up working in a school environment in the future or decide to apply for the peace corps, stuff like that. another option of interst is to be an au pair somewhere... perhaps australia because it would require the least amount of work on the part of learning a language... aka, i wouldn't have to. also, i've always wanted to go to australia. if i were going to live somewhere and be an au pair and not know anyone living there, australia is good because my friend nicola lives there and would hang out with me to help get me situated. those two options are for sometime later in this next year, but before that i'm hoping to pick up more hours at circa (because the tips are just tooooo good) and spend all of my money on traveling. my goal is to go to spain within the next 5 months to visit my friend who will be studying abroad there. mmm.
I CAN'T WAIT TO GO TO KOREA!!! i've been talking to owen about it and he's planning all our traveling and stuff, and situating my flight from seoul to daegu, and i just can't stand waiting anymore. it's going to be amazing- my first real trip (unless you count that shitty trip to europe with the fam in 10th grade, and it really was shitty) and my first alone-flight. i hope all this airline shit is better by the end of sept because i really need to be able to bring some things to entertain myself on a flight this long.
i just hung out with kristina, who was visiting from mexico (thank god she didn't bring her boyfriend), and it was fun but kind of bittersweet, because i realized how much we've grown apart. its strange because my friends from high school that i felt close to have all gone their separate ways, and when we hang out its like, this is fun, but we would never make it as best friends who lived in the same town all the time and hung out a lot like we used to. and its hard to find people who REALLY LISTEN to you. i know it sounds totally cliche and like a line from 10 different movies, but it really does feel like most people are just waiting for you to stop talking so they can talk. i think i just have way too high of standards for human-kind, it's a character flaw of mine.
september is going to be so weird. if i don't get anymore hours at circa i will only be working on saturday and sunday mornings. i have no idea what i'm going to do during the weekdays, and hopefully i'll do something useful... it seems like its really easy to get trapped into sleeping in until really late, trying to go to the gym but talking yourself out of it, and then sort of bumming around online and waiting to see if your phone will ring until suddenly you realize it's time for bed again. maybe that's just me. god, that sounds depressing, lets hope that doesn't happen.
i'm FINALLY reading the da vinci code; i know i am the last one on earth. it's really interesting so far.
