Of Friends and Silly Wagers....

Nov 12, 2006 15:27

This is the story of two crazy friends. They are as different as can be…yet they are so similar in ‘SO’ many ways. Since Chalk and Cheese would be discriminatory, let me call them Chocolate and Cheese instead! No there is NO significance to the two edibles here…they are just… well…names!

So, ‘Chocolate’ lives in town A and ‘Cheese’ lives in town B. They have recently discovered each other and have become good buddies. They laugh a lot together. They share a bond that is quite inexplicable and comes from God knows where. They don’t question the reasons why that bonding is there, but just revel in the fact that it IS.

Chocolate keeps calling Cheese to come over to town A, while Cheese keeps calling Chocolate over to town B. Both are adamant, for very understandable reasons, on not making the trip to the other town. They continue to be buddies all the same.

They chat a lot….often late into the night, meaningful stuff sometimes and inane stuff at others… like buddies would! They laugh a lot together and the daily dose of laughter is like a fix for Chocolate, pretty sure the same must be the case with Cheese!

Over one such inane chat, Cheese suddenly dares Chocolate… that Chocolate won’t be able to live without chatting with Cheese. Chocolate warns Cheese not to put up such a challenge. Cheese listens not…but wagers on it as well! Chocolate, not to be taken lightly and always ready for a dare….takes Cheese on! The wager being…whoever makes the first move (It’s a foregone conclusion that one of these two will make the first move… and that shall be sooner rather than later!!) will have to travel across to the other one’s town the following weekend!

The wager has been on 48 hours now! Both Chocolate and Cheese are being closely watched. Both Chocolate and Cheese have made their tiny attempts at cheating…yet both have not given in, at least, not yet!!!

It surprises me to learn how fiercely competitive both Chocolate and Cheese are. Chocolate, I know has come so close to picking up the phone and losing the wager, yet has held back, with much difficulty. Cheese has made devious attempts at getting Chocolate to call, yet has not given in!

After all, the lost wager is a WIN -WIN for all parties anyways!

This little story unfolds interestingly. It is FUN to sit on the sidelines and watch.

To add my two penny bit to this suspenseful story that I shall track to its very end….

“What kind of masochists are these…competing away for something like this!!!”
