Heaven...eh. anonymous October 24 2005, 23:40:04 UTC
Have you actually tried to comprehend what eternity is? It's difficult to grasp a concept such as infinite time and existance, but you seem to have no trouble excepting an after-life that never ends and is always enjoyable. This ideal heaven you seem so confident in attending doesn't seem as though it could be as perfect as you imagine. It actually seems extremely depressing to think about. To have forever to do anything and everything will eventually wear on us. We will become omniscent with everything, until we've soaked up all the happiness and comfort even God can offer. It is impossible to fulfill human desires. In your heaven, we will start fresh but slowly find ourselves wanting more then the grace of God can present. That's when the labeled "evil" will once again show through. Everything has to have good and bad to function, even heaven, making it just as shitty and at the same time beautiful as Earth. If you believe deviance doesn't apply to the rules of heaven, then we are meant to remain suspended in a state of warmth and contentment forever, and we would have no choice but to be blinded from our own true identities. We'll become the brainwashed smiling souls that are required to exist in such a way, not who we really are inside. Heaven and Hell are exaggerations of where you already are, they're not that much better or worse. There's more comfort in knowing we'll become nothing once we die, that there is an end to living in absolute mental and physical absence. I prefer that than being tantilized and tortured by the limitations of existance in any form. So if you do think there's a heaven, I wouldn't worry about which flavor you want it to smell like. I'd worry about how quickly you're going to wish you can't smell anymore.

I'm really sorry if this offended you or anyone else in anyway. You probably even know who this is. It just bothered me for some reason that you spoke of heaven so confidently and casually, and I just wanted to voice an opposite opinion.

#2. This person needs to read up on their Biblical scholarship, since they make statements that contradict basic Christian doctrine

#3. They need to take a philosophy course

#4. Why in the world did i leave this comment?

#5. Jackalope are sweet (this is all I actually wanted to say)

of course you didn't offend me. but yeah, i have thought about the concept of infinity. we've been studying it in my math class, and it is absolutely blowing my mind, the mathematical paradoxes it creates. it actually just puts me more in awe of God that he could create something like it. the thing is, you're putting earthly limitations on heaven. it's supernatural. which is why it's so difficult for us to understand right now. in the supernatural afterlife, i don't believe that monotony will exist and i don't belive that God has any limitations in what he can offer us. i really can't believe that there's comfort thinking we'll become nothing when we die. that worldview is anything BUT comforting to me. thanks for voicing your opinion, you know i always like to hear it. and you also know that we pretty much always disagree. anyway, i have more to say but livejournal comments just aren't the place to do it.
