Well, I'm finally here. It's been a long journey, but it's been well worth it because University is great, there's so much to do here &everyone I've met so far is really friendly, nice and clever! The girls in my corridor are all lovely and we've all been going out socialising together with it being Freshers Week. We're all on different courses, in my corridor alone there are people doing history, management, medics, chemical engineering, sociology and french! Also I've met quite a few people off my course already and I've been randomnly chatting to people in the queues at module enrolment too.
With it being Fresher's Week I've managed to go out every night so far since I arrived on Saturday! On Saturday when I arrived, I merely went down to the bar with a few people who had I had just met- as it should turn out, our halls has the biggest bar compared to all the other houses :D hehe. But on Sunday we had a school disco event here at Ranmoor, which was ace. Everyone dressed up in uniform (or as close as in white shirt and tie w/skirt for girls &trousers for the boys) :p It was really cool and it got everyone mingling together too, which is always good. That night alone I met so many people that I couldn't possibly remember all of their names! On Monday I went to the University owned 'bar one' before proceeding to the infamous Gatecrasher, a club which plays really cheesy dance music and rn'b which I didn't exactly relish, but some of the people I was with liked it never the less. Tuesday night I just went on a bar crawl, as we were separated into teams and we went around all the pubs and bars- Sheffield has so many! Then we finished off the night in Kingdom, a much better club than Gatecrasher in my opinion, but still pretty cheesy! (Still at least you get given free sweets at the door! :)) I saw my friend Mettie (I know him from Widnes) there too, he's staying in different halls from me though- Tapton I think. Every single night we've been out so far, we haven't got back to our rooms until about 3am! heh.
Last night I stayed in the Ranmoor bar and disco hall area because there was a 'Lock and Key' party- where all the guys get given locks and all the girls get the keys with a number on &you have to find your perfect match which corresponds with your number! By a matter of mere chance, I found mine straight away. He was pretty cute too, but he wasn't actually a member of Ranmoor, or even of the University :P As it should turn out, he was simply visiting a friend. Anyway, we were one of the first couples to find each other, so we won a bottle of champagne! That was awesome. He gave me half the champagne which was nice, &he and his friends invited me to go to a 'corridor party' up on 7G or something, but to be honest I wanted to go to bed by that point :p I've been feeling pretty tired all week because there's been so much to get sorted- accommodation, academic meetings, registration, medical interviews and Ucards to name but a few.
I managed to enrol and register at the Uni over the period of Tuesday and Wednesday. I just so happened to find the modules rather confusing to work out at first. I've decided to do Journalism with two unrestricted modules in Philosophy- namely Existentialism and the Philosophy of Space and Time. After registration and miles of queues, I registered and then had my medical interview yesterday afternoon. Then I went for lunch with Mettie, who was then registering himself. At the Student Union they had a massive poster sale on over the last couple of days, which was v cool because I managed to buy a few to cover the blank canvas which is my walls and the horrible yellow tape/cracks which have endured there, presumably from its last occupant. I managed to register my computer and get my e-mail sorted on Sunday, it's soo good, they have free broadband internet here in your room and it's really fast :) The only downfall of the place is that there is tonnes of hilly parts here which means a lot of walking, but everything is close to hand and only a short walk away, so it's no real trouble. Plus there's a bus service just outside which takes you straight to the central Uni area every six minutes.
Last night I went to a Band Night which went on at the big hall downstairs which was pretty cool. I missed the first band but The Yell and Milburn seemed pretty cool and I think they were from Sheffield themselves. I ended up making some new friends, some guy from Plymouth studying Chemistry, some girl from Chester doing Human Communications and two guys from North Wales pretty close to where I live doing Philosophy type subjects. Heh. We ended up sat in the girl's room playing a game of poopoo head, a game of cards which I didn't actually think was a real game, but was actually fun to play! I didn't do too badly either considering I'd never played it before :) It's so cool how everyone is really relaxed and just willing to make new friends here, that's what I've really liked about the place so far. The other big event of last night was Fuzz Club- which was kicked off by DJ Steve Lamacq, except it'd already sold out when I arrived, so I couldn't go to that. I am going to Pop Tarts on Saturday night though- a 70's/80's/90's/dance/disco/retro club night which kicks off from then. I managed to buy my ticket for the Fresher's Ball which is happening next Saturday too, only trouble is I really need to buy my ball gown/dress yet! Eep. But I'm hoping to go shopping at the weekend and pick one up then or hire one at least. The Ball is themed on Las Vegas, so I guess I'll have to find something pretty glam and sparkly!:D Anyhow that's all I can think of to say for now, except that Fresher's Week has been grand (and cost me a lot of money) but been well worth it. I know I should enjoy it whilst it lasts because next week the work begins!(&for some it already has) Eeep.
Oh and tonight I'm going to try some salsa dancing which should be pretty interesting.I've never tried it before, so I'm looking forward to that a lot! :)
